The Irish wicket-keeper has immense batting talent apart from his handy glove-work. He made early forays into cricket with club-team Belfast Harlequins and later went on to represent Civil Service side in Ireland.
Since then, he has escalated through the ranks and earned himself a contract with the Surrey County has remained in the team since 2008. He averages in his mid-thirties in First-Class cricket.
For some reason he has been unable to translate this success in limited-overs cricket, be it international or List A. In ODIs his average of about 25 has been the reason for him not being able to completely cement his place in the Irish team.
However, he possesses the ability to root himself in and steady the ship even in dire circumstances which keeps him relevant in the eye of the Irish selectors at all times. He also has one ODI century to his name which came against fellow-minnows Netherlands.
Most importantly he’s part of an Irish side that dreams big; that harbours realistic hopes of upsetting big sides on a regular basis, a side that wants to play in their Test whites someday. With age still on his side, he’d like to be an integral part of this Irish endeavour.
