Coming from cricket fraternity, Jaydev Shah, son of former BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah, has led Saurashtra to victory in 2007-08 Ranji one-day matches — the maiden limited-overs title for the side. He led Saurashtra to the 2015-16 final, where they were blown away by Mumbai.
Born in Rajkot, Shah was picked by Rajasthan Royals in 2008 but never got a match. He was later called on for Mumbai Indians, but did not get a game for them, either. 2016 saw him earn another contract, this time for Gujarat Lions.
Shah’s inclusion, let alone leadership, in the Saurashtra side remains a mystery, for a sub-30 batting average for over a 100-match career does not merit selection, especially for someone who does not bowl or keep wickets.
