There are similarities between Kannaur Lokesh Rahul and his namesake Rahul Dravid: both are technically sound, solid top-order batsmen from Karnataka, capable of playing long innings, and adept at keeping wickets in a crunch. In his short First-Class career, Rahul has already established himself as a big-innings player, averaging well over 50.
Having impressed at the Under-19 level for India, Rahul was further rewarded for his consistency for Karnataka with a slot in India's Test team in Australia, 2014-15.
Playing the third Test at MCG Rahul was guilty of playing three uncharacteristically rash shots across two innings, batting at Nos. 6 and 3. He was dropped once and dismissed early twice. Thankfully, the selectors persisted with him: opening batting in the next Test at SCG, Rahul responded with 110.
Despite his immense promise Rahul has shown a worrying tendency to get out early. This is evidenced by the fact that he scored two centuries in his first five Tests, but got to double figures only once apart from those innings.
Also an excellent close-in fielder and more than handy wicketkeeper, Rahul is definitely a long-term prospect for India if he can sort out his inconsistencies.
