An exciting medium-pace-bowling all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis shot to limelight after hitting 9 fours and 11 sixes en route his stunning knock of 146 not out off 117 balls in only the second ODI of his career against New Zealand in early 2017. Coming in to bat at No. 7 with score reading 54 for 5 in pursuit of 287, Stoinis played one of the finest ODI knocks to take his side closer to win. However, with Nos. 10 and 11 falling quickly, he remained stranded as Australia lost by 7 runs.
He made his ODI and T20I debuts in 2015 but had to wait for his next appearance for Australia till January 2017. But when he returned, he did that in style. Even during his time away from the national team, he continued to impress the selectors with his fine performances in First-Class cricket for Victoria.
But Stoinis’ career goes back before that. He made a mark at a very young age, as part of Australia’s Under-19 squad in the 2008 World Cup. It was a talented batch that boasted of Steven Smith, Philip Hughes, Josh Hazlewood, James Faulkner and James Pattinson.
Having represented Delhi Daredevils in the past, Stoinis currently is a part of Kings XI Punjab in IPL. He left IPL 2017 midway due to an injury, but was later declared fit to take part in the Champions Trophy.
