Sam Curran is the son of the late Zimbabwe allrounder Kevin Curran, who represented Zimbabwe in the 1983 and 1987 World Cups. An allrounder like his father and brother Tom, with whom he plays at Surrey in England, Curran made his first-class debut debut at the age of 17 in 2015 and took eight wickets in the match. His List and T20 debuts also happened during that summer, and over the next two seasons Curran made impacts to underline the all-round talent that had people talking when he was a young boy.
In 2018, just days shy of turning 20, Curran made his Test debut for England against Pakistan at Headingley. It was a muted debut, but one Test later the 20-year-old allrounder was Man of the Match as England beat India at Edgbaston by 31 runs in the first match of a five-Test series. Batting at No 8, Curran scored crucial innings of 24 and 64, the latter helping England recover from 87/7 to 180, which proved decisive in the final outcome. His left-arm pace saw India lose three wickets in eight balls during their first innings, and two more in the game earned Curran the match honours.
He made a further impact in his fourth Test, scoring 78 and 46 to go with two wickets as England wrapped up the series at The Ageas Bowl. Three more wickets in the fifth Test saw Curran named Player of the Series by India.
