Highly regarded by former Ireland coach Phil Simmons, Stuart Thompson has made a mark in his short international career so far. He made his ODI debut against Scotland in 2013-14, where he opened bowling and picked up 2 for 20, and followed it up with a 34-ball 33 and 2 for 17 with his medium-pace in a one-off match against West Indies at Sabina Park.
Thompson was part of the team when his side drew the two-match T20I series against West Indies. Thompson is a genuine all-rounder. In fact, if his performance drops in one department, he makes amends by making it up with his skills in the other. He has a healthy ODI average, an excellent strike-rate and picks up wickets when needed can be extremely dangerous on his day. The 23-year-old all-rounder looks set to have a long and fruitful career in this Irish side.
His father Nigel also played for Ireland.
