A talented middle-order batsman, Vijay Shankar started off his Tamil Nadu career with 63 not out and chipped in with a couple of wickets on debut against Vidarbha, in Ranji Trophy 2012-13. He was an understudy for the next couple of years until the 2014-15 season turned out to be a remarkable one for him.
He amassed 577 runs at 57.7 in seven matches, which included two tons and three fifties.
He earned an India A call-up and slammed a half-century on debut against an Australia A side consisting of Gurinder Sandhu and Sean Abbott to name a few. He was also impressive against South Africa A, with both bat and ball.
Despite spending three seasons at Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Shankar just played one match for them in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 35 lakhs in the IPL 2016 auction.
