George Worker replaces Tim Southee in Test squad

George Worker has been brought into the New Zealand Test squad ahead of the opening match against the West Indies at the Basin Reserve on Friday. Worker replaces Tim Southee in the squad, who is unavailable due to the birth of his child. New Zealand Selector Gavin Larsen said that Worker would provide batting cover.

“Obviously there are things more important than cricket and we support Tim and his decision to stay with his family right now,” said Larsen.

“George will join the Test squad for the first time on the back of his form in First Class cricket over the past couple of seasons.”
