Asia Cup, 2016

The Asia Cup 2016 will be held in Bangladesh once again, and for the first time ever the tournament will be played in Twenty20 format. The tournament will begin on February 24, 2016 and the final will be played on March 6, just two days before the start of the ICC World T20 2016. The tournament will serve as an excellent opportunity for the teams to prepare for the ICC World T20 2016 tournament, which will be held in India for the very first time.

It is a known fact that the conditions in Bangladesh are quite similar to that of India’s, and thus the Asian teams participating in the tournament will have good preparations for the tournament. For those unaware, the ICC World T20 2016 will begin on March 8.

India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan are the four confirmed teams participating in the Asia Cup 2016. There will be a total of four teams — Afghanistan, Oman, Hong Kong and United Arab Emirates — competing for the fifth place in the Asia Cup in the qualifying round. It must be remembered that Afghanistan had played the main round of Asia Cup last time in the 2014 edition.

This is the fifth time overall that Bangladesh is hosting the Asia Cup. This is the third time on the trot that Bangladesh are hosting the Asia Cup tournament, as they had previously hosted back in 2012 and 2014. While the main round of the Asia Cup 2016 is supposed to start on February 24, the qualifying round for a the fifth spot in the tournament between the four teams will be played from February 19 onwards.
