So that's it from all of us for this encounter and ODI series. We hope you enjoyed our coverage of the game. These two sides now lock horns in the T20I series starting on April 4, 2017 at 1900 local time (1330 GMT). Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!
Sri Lanka captain Upul Tharanga says that his team played really well. Thinks that the run outs made them lose the momentum but Thisara Perera played well to bring things back in control. Calls Thisara Perera's knock very important. Says that he really showed that he can hit the ball really well.
Bangladesh captain, Mashrafe Mortaza says that were were not upto the mark. Opines that they lost in the match in the first ten overs of either innings. Says that they lost too many wickets early and adds that Sarkar and Shakib did play well but couldn't carry on. Ends by saying that they will work on their mistakes and try to improve in their next ODI assignment against Ireland.
Man of the Series, Kusal Mendis that is he is extremely happy with his performance. Credits his team for always showing confidence in him.
Man of the Match, Thisara Perera starts off saying that he is really happy with his batting. He has given his everything in practice. Mentions that he has come back after six months and wants to really do well in the future. Credits his practice sessions for his good show.
Earlier in the match, Gunathilaka and Tharanga gave their side a dream start - 76 in the first ten overs. Though Bangladesh pulled things back in the middle overs, a breezy knock from Thisara ensured that they posted a par total on board. How important was his knock? Who will be the Man of the Match? Thisara or Kulasekara. Let's find out at the presentation....
A lot was expected from Mahmudullah, but Suranga Lakmal got rid of him very soon. Mehedi Hasan along with Taskin Ahmed stitched together a stand of 54 to frustrate the Islanders. In the process, Mehedi Hasan also slammed his maiden fifty to showcase his potential. But it was never going to be enough as Nuwan Kulasekara struck twice in his comeback over to help his side win the match and level the series. Coming to the other Sri Lankan bowlers, all were economical barring Thisara Perera and Asela Gunaratne. The pick of the bowlers though was Kulasekara who finished with four wickets.
If one asks me where did the chase become really difficult for Bangladesh - I would suggest after the first four overs. Bangladesh lost three big wickets in Tamim Iqbal, Sabbir Rahman and Mushiqur Rahim. Those dismissals broke the back of the chase pretty early. Though Shakib Al Hasan and Soumya Sarkar stuck around to steady the ship with a 77-run stand, Dilruwan Perara bowled a beauty to get rid of the latter. Shakib was having issues with his back which might have lead to his wicket as he looked to really go after the bowling once he got to his fifty.
10 wickets down for BAN. Out batsman is Taskin Ahmed. It is all over for BAN. 44.3Nuwan Kulasekara to Taskin Ahmed. out, OUT! All over for Bangladesh! SRI LANKA WIN BY 70 RUNS. Nuwan Kulasekara bowls this a lot fuller, Taskin Ahmed looks to go downtown. He gets the elevation but fails to get the desired distance. The ball flies towards long on where Asela Gunaratne runs to his left to catch it. That is it, the hosts have levelled the ODI series 1-1.
44.2Nuwan Kulasekara to Mustafizur Rahman. 1 run, Rahman pushes this to covers for a single and gets off the mark.
Mustafizur Rahman is the last man in. Bangladesh need 72 more runs in 35 balls. The writing seems to be on the wall for them.
3 wickets for Nuwan Kulasekara. Nuwan Kulasekara is on a roll. 44.1Nuwan Kulasekara to Mehedi Hasan. out, OUT! Mehedi Hasan holes out! Nuwan Kulasekara bowls a low full toss outside off, Mehedi Hasan looks to go over covers but doesn't time it well. Upul Tharanga runs to his left from extra cover to catch it. Amusingly, Mehedi Hasan was asking for a no ball, but the ball was well below his waist.
Nuwan Kulasekara returns for a spell.
End of over 44 ( 7 Runs )BAN 209/8 43.6Asela Gunaratne to Taskin Ahmed. no run, The batsman has pushed it to the cover region.
43.5Asela Gunaratne to Mehedi Hasan. 1 run, Hasan drags his pull to long on for a single.
43.4Asela Gunaratne to Taskin Ahmed. 1 run, In the air... but safe. Ahmed looks to flick but gets a leading edge, the ball falls well short of the long on fielder. Single taken.
Maiden ODI fifty for Mehedi Hasan!
50 runs for Mehedi Hasan 43.3Asela Gunaratne to Mehedi Hasan. 1 run, Full and around off, Mehedi Hasan drives it through mid on for a single. What a fine innings this has been from the youngster.
43.2Asela Gunaratne to Mehedi Hasan. no run, Bowls this on the pads, Mehedi looks to tickle but it goes off the pad towards short fine leg.
43.1Asela Gunaratne to Mehedi Hasan. FOUR, FOUR! Supreme placement. Asela bowls a length delivery on the sticks, Mehedi Hasan makes room and cuts it through point for a boundary. The point and short third man fielder gave up the chase far too quickly. That brings up the 50-run stand.
