COMMENTARY
Northern Knights won by 7 wkts | Northern Knights Vs Southern Express 1st T20 Match Qualifying Group
More...
That ends the first match of the qualifier. One more win for the Knights, and they are almost through to the main round. A lot of work to do for the men from Sri Lanka. They have pleyed themselves into a corner and need to win both their remaining matches to have a chance. The action continues with a big match. India (Mumbai) take on Pakistan (Lahore Lions). Change tabs and do join us for all the action. For now, cheers and bye..
Williamson: 'Some deliveries gripped and some skid on. It was a little bit two paced and dew had some effect which made batting a lot easier. We are enjoying playing on this ground, this was my first time here.'
Kane Williamson is the MoM for his 52
Flynn: 'It was an interesting game. The first 10 overs probably didn't go our way, but we did well later. We couldn't practise a lot due to the poor weather. It is fantastic to get off to a winning start and it is a big tournament to be a part of. Thankful to the crowd as well.'
Mubarak: 'It was a game of two halves with the bat. We started well but lost momentum mid-way. They bowled really well in the middle overs and the wicket suited them pretty well. It showed how hard it is to come in and play shots straightaway. We have got a big match tomorrow, probably against the favourites (Mumbai) to qualify. We need to pull up our socks and do well.'
A crushing victory for the Knights. The bowlers pulled things back after a shoddy start, both with the ball as well as in the field. The last two overs turned out to be the game clincher. The chase got off to a perfect start as Williamson and Devcich took 40 runs off the first 3 overs. The latter fell but Williamson made sure there were no mid-innings hiccups. He went on to make a well compiled fifty. Maharoof was impressive, but with no support from the others, it wasn't going to be enough.
9.3Sachith Pathirana to Daniel Harris. FOUR, Pathirana drops one short and wide outside off, Harris makes room and slaps it past point, a winning start for the men from New Zealand
Knights win
9.2Sachith Pathirana to Daniel Harris. 2 runs, flighted delivery and on off, Harris makes room and drills it to the left of extra cover, Mubarak dives but can't hold onto the tough chance. He gets a bit lazy though and doesn't realise that the batsmen were haring back for the second run. Poor cricket from the Express skipper
9.1Sachith Pathirana to Scott Styris. 1 run, Styris comes down the track to a well tossed up ball and drills it towards long on
Sachith Pathirana [1.0-0-12-0] is back into the attack
End of over 9 ( 10 Runs )NK 89/3 8.6Farveez Maharoof to Scott Styris. 1 run, slower ball from Maharoof, whipped away towards deep mid-wicket for a run
8.5Farveez Maharoof to Scott Styris. 2 runs, fuller length delivery and on the stumps, driven back past the bowler for a couple of runs
Scott Styris, right handed bat, comes to the crease
3 wickets down for NK. Out batsman is Kane Williamson 8.4Farveez Maharoof to Kane Williamson. out Bowled!! Maharoof has struck, Williamson falls after a fine fifty. This was full and just outside off, Williamson was looking to dab it down towards third man, gets a bottom edge that cannons back onto the stumps. Not much celebrations in the Express camp. Williamson b Maharoof 52(29) [4s-7 6s-1]
50 runs for Kane Williamson 8.3Farveez Maharoof to Kane Williamson. FOUR, fifty for Williamson , excellent batting, this was full an don the stumps, Williamson moves across, uses the pace on the ball and paddles it over short fine, almost went all the way
Maharoof aborts his delivery stride as Williamson was shuffling across on the paddle sweep

8.1Farveez Maharoof to Daniel Harris. 1 run, slower ball from Maharoof, Harris slugs and gets an inside edge towards long on for a single
Farveez Maharoof [1.0-0-4-1] is back into the attack
