England Vs Ireland One-off Test - Ireland in England, One-off Test, 2023 - summary

England now will look to bat long, their first aim will be to not lose wickets in this final session. Ireland on the other hand, will need a few before Stumps. Can they fight back or will England continue to dominate? We will find out.

For England, thir bowlers were on point. The decision to bowl first has been justified. Stuart Broad was the pick with a five-fer but all their bowlers bowled really well. Josh Tongue did not pick a wicket but was quite sharp and did cause some troubles. Stokes though will be very pleased with where his team stands.

England did not take long to take the remaining wickets after the break! It was Stuart Broad who got the better of Adair and once that stand between Mark and Curtis Campher was broken, wickets fell quickly. Campher followed and then the lower order did not contribute a lot. Overall it was a poor batting display by the Irish. A few of them got off to starts but none went onto make it into a big one. They needed someone to go big but that was missing and they have been bundled out for a poor first innings total.

Another really good session for England and they are well on top in this game! First, they got rid of the well-set James McCollum and then the big wicket of Tector. Andy McBrine showed some resilliance but he then fell too. However, Curtis Campher is doing well but he will need someone to hang in there with him. Mark Adair has done a decent job so far but can he continue the good work? England on the other hand, will want to continue the same. They will be eager to get the remaining wickets quickly. ...Day 1, Session 2...

The home team bossed the first session. Four wickets in the session and England will happily take it. There was not much swing but some smart cricket from Stuart Broad rewarded him with 3 wickets in no time. He almost had Paul Stirling as well but the review saved him. For Ireland, once they weathered the early storm, McCollum and Paul Stirling played sensibly to build a stand. It was cut short though as Jack Leach struck later on. James McCollum is batting really well as he still waits for a partner to build a big stand. Ireland will hope Lorcan Tucker comes to the rescue as the visitors will look for a much better second session while England will hope to keep bowling in the right areas and clinch more wickets. There is still more than 30 overs remaining. A big task for Ireland who will hope not to lose more than one wicket in this session. The English bowlers will be looking for some early wickets. Stay tuned.

All the English players contributed right from the start. Fifty for Zak Crawley and Joe Root. Ben Duckett fell for a hard-made 182 but the man of the hour was Ollie Pope who scored his maiden double-hundred. The Irish players had to toil hard. They were wayward with the ball and were punished dearly. 

England have declared their innings. They lead by 352 runs! Might be just waiting for Ollie Pope to reach to his milestone and Pope has done that in some fashion, with a six. Ben Duckett might have missed out but not Ollie Pope who along with other batters have helped England get a lead over 350. Joe Root got out just after reaching to his fifty and so did Pope. However, right from the start, we saw England taking on the Irish bowlers out of the park.

...Day 2, Session 3...

England continue to dominate. They have scored 500 runs and now lead by 331 runs. Ollie Pope is close to his double-century while Root has gone past his fifty. Happy signs for England before a big summer. Ben Duckett was early on dismissed in this session, just before his double-century but Joe Root came in and have joined hands with Ollie Pope to build another big partnership. Ireland had something to cheer but failed to capitalize on it. It will be interesting to see how many more runs England will be looking for. Maybe a lead of around 500. We will find out soon.

Day 1 ended as expected, total dominance from the hosts and they are well, well ahead in this game already! First it was Broad's brilliance which saw Ireland being bundled out for a low score and then the top three scored freely to bring down the deficit to just 20. England now are expected to bat for as long as possible, Day 2 is know as the best day to bat and they wuold want to cash in. Ireland will need wickets in heaps if they are to get back into the game. A day totally dominated by the hosts! First, after electing to bowl, they bundled out Ireland for a low score. Broad was the star with a fifer but all the bowlers played their part. Then, their openers came out all guns blazing. They managed to score freely and both the openers aded fifties and the two added 100. Zak Crawley fell but Pope has looked solid after and he along with Ben Duckett are amidst another good stand. England just trail by another 20 and they will hope they can knock those many runs off without a wicket falling. Their aim will be to bat really long. Ireland on the other hand, will hope they can fight back on Day 2. They will need to bowl a lot tighter, their bowlers were very wayward.
