India vs England 2016-17
The second team to visit the Indian shores during their big ‘India Cricket’ season 2016-17 will be England, who will play 5 Tests, 3 ODIs and as many T20Is from November 2016 to February 2017. This will be England’s first tour since their famous outing in 2012, wherein they were able to beat their hosts 2-1 in a four-Test series. As far as domination is concerned, England have won all of the last three series against India since their away defeat in 2008-09. On this tour, England will also two one-day warm-up matches before the three-ODI series, but they do not have any tour match lined up ahead of the Test series.

The five-match Test series will be played in November-December 2016, while the limited-overs leg of the England tour of India 2016-17 will begin from January 10. The Test series ends December 20, which means the English cricketers will get sometime to fly back home for Christmas and New Year, and assemble once again in India.

Historically, India and England have had 31 bilateral Test series so far, since 1932. India had to wait for their first-ever series win against England, which came in 1961-62 when they won the five-Test series 2-0. It was under the leadership of Ajit Wadekar that India won their first-ever series in England, trumping them by 1-0 in a three-Test series. Overall, England have won bilateral Test series against India as many as 18 times, while only four series have been drawn. India have won nine of 31 series against England.

The India versus England 2016-17 series will be for the Anthony de Mello Trophy, while the one which these two teams contest for in England is called the Pataudi Trophy.

This will be the first five-Test series for England in India since 1984-85, which they had won by 2-1. But before coming over to India, the English cricket team will be in Bangladesh for a two-Test and three-ODI series, which will certainly give them ample amount of acclimatisation as well as conditioning for playing in the Indian subcontinent.

The five-Test series between India and England will have two of the newest venues for Test cricket. The series will begin with the first Test at Rajkot, which is expected to assist spinners. The second Test of this series will also be played at a new venue, Visakhapatnam. The remaining three Tests will be played at Mohali, Mumbai and Chennai respectively.

It will be a massive challenge for both the teams to maintain their domination, albeit in different sense. England have won the last three Test series against India, and with the core of their team not being a lot different, Alastair Cook’s men will be expected to maintain their progress. But it will not be an easy job at all, since Virat Kohli’s Team India will be in a mood of taking revenge of their previous defeats. India were not expected to lose to England in 2012, and that defeat will certainly be on the minds of many of the current players.
