That is all from us here. Join us for the 'Dead Rubber' between India and Pakistan tomorrow from Edgbaston. Bye Bye!
Presentation Ceremony:
Ingram: 'I have been fortunate to open the innings in this team. I was a bit nervous and I settled my nerves. The ball was moving around a bit but I am glad that I got some bad deliveries. We have played a bit of cricket in the UK and we have gotten used to the conditions. I have been enjoying my role at the top of the order.'
Colin Ingram is the MoM for his knock of 73.
AB de Villiers: 'We have been in the losing side on these occasions a couple of times. I feel bad for the West Indies. This will give us a lot of momentum for the semi-finals. The D/L par score was at the back of my mind and it was drizzling for a long time. The ball was wet and it was difficult to grip the ball. We were calm under pressure situations. The batsmen performed well but the West Indies line-up is very dangerous. They showed it at the end when they ran us close. Steyn bowled well and I am glad he held onto that catch.'
Dwayne Bravo: 'It is very disappointing for us. Credit to South Africa for playing well. Both teams played very well. We were hoping that we could go back but the rain was too heavy and the umpires did their job. We did a good job in restricting a good RSA team to 230 but we fought very well. Me, the coach and the senior players were aware of the tricky weather and we were not aware of when the rain will come. We deserved to finish off on a high but South Africa played well.'
West Indies got off to a steady start but they lost their way during the middle part of the innings. However, a whirlwind knock from Marlon Samuels and Kieron Pollard got West Indies going and they went ahead of the D/L score as the weather played truant. However, Pollard lost his nerve and he perished to Steyn in the penultimate ball before the rain. This meant that instead of a West Indies win, the match was tied. South Africa have qualified for the semi-finals and India have topped the group.
The wheels have come full circle here. 10 years ago, during the World Cup in South Africa, the home team were thwarted by the rain at Durban against Sri Lanka. The misreading of the D/L par score resulted in South Africa getting eliminated. Now, on a wet day in Cardiff, West Indies have suffered a similar fate.
19:57 Local Time: Official news is in. The game has been called off and the match has ended in a tie. South Africa have qualified for the semi-finals while West Indies have been eliminated. Pollard and the entire West Indies unit will be gutted.
19:56 Local Time: Even if the rain had to stop immediately, the ground-staff reckon that they cannot get the ground ready before 20:35 local time.
19:52 Local Time: The rain has not eased off and the covers are in place. Word filtering in is that the game has been called off. We are awaiting official news.
19:48 Local Time: Had Pollard not got out, the par score at 26.1 would have been 187. The umpires are heading out of the ground now. This means that the game might soon be over.
19:45 Local Time: We are well past the cut-off time here. The hover-cover is coming onto the field along with more covers. If the game does not resume, then West Indies are eliminated. Shades of the 2003 World Cup where RSA choked. The umpires are in consultation here.
To add to the conundrum, the rain has again started. The umpires have called for the covers. West Indies are level on the par score. If the match is not resumed, then South Africa go through. Pollard's wicket has made a massive difference.
Darren Sammy, right handed bat, comes to the crease
26.1Ryan McLaren to Kieron Pollard. out Caught by Steyn!! This match continues to see-saw. Back of a length delivery outside off, it bounces up a bit more as Pollard looks to maul it across the line, the ball takes the outside edge and goes high to third man, Steyn settles underneath that steepler and takes a smart catch. Pollard c Steyn b McLaren 28(23) [4s-5]
Ryan McLaren [3.0-0-34-0] is back into the attack
End of over 26 ( 10 Runs )WI 190/5 25.6Chris Morris to Dwayne Bravo. FOUR, fantastic shot from Dwayne, Morris overcooks the length of the delivery outside off, Dwayne gets forward and thumps it over mid off for a crucial boundary
25.5Chris Morris to Kieron Pollard. 1 run, full ball on off stump, driven to deep extra cover
25.4Chris Morris to Kieron Pollard. no run, superb ball from Morris, short of length ball and it jags back in sharply on middle stump, Pollard goes for the pull but misses it
