England innings

Batting R B 4s 6s SR
Alastair Cook (captain)c Dhoni b R Jadeja 95 231 9 0 41.13
75.6
Ravindra Jadeja to Cook, out Caught by Dhoni!! Cook has been strangled down leg! He misses out on a hundred. The wait continues. This was short and turning down leg, Cook who was trying to be positive, goes back and looks to pull, he gets a bottom edge and Dhoni does well to move to his right and complete a good catch. Cook knew he had nicked it, Erasmus took his time before raising the finger. Was this the opening that India were looking for? Cook c Dhoni b Ravindra Jadeja 95(231) [4s-9]
Sam Robson c R Jadeja b Shami 26 59 4 0 44.07
20.5
Shami to Sam Robson, out Caught by Ravindra Jadeja!! Edged and gone! Jadeja has redeemed himself. Sam Robson's problems outside off continue, he unnecessarily pokes at a short of length delivery outside off and edges it to the third slip - comfortable catch for Jadeja who doesn't drop it this time. India get their first breakthrough. Sam Robson c Ravindra Jadeja b Shami 26(59) [4s-4]
Gary Ballance c Dhoni b Rohit 156 288 24 0 54.17
116.5
Rohit to Ballance, out Caught by Dhoni!! It's Rohit Sharma who gets the breakthrough! Oopsy! It's a bad decision and it's surprising to see Ballance not show any dissent. Probably, he's happy that he's recorded his best Test score. Meanwhile, this is the first Test wicket for Rohit! Flighted delivery pitches on the off stump and bounces extra, Ballance, who is not a keen mover of the front foot, found himself in an awkward position, he tried to defend but the extra bounce beat him all ends up, brushed the thigh pad en route to Dhoni. Credit to Mahendra Singh Dhoni for holding onto one that was really climbing on him. Ballance walks off to a standing ovation and it is certainly a satisfying knock. Ballance c Dhoni b Rohit 156(288) [4s-24]
Ian Bell c Pankaj Singh b Bhuvneshwar 167 256 19 3 65.23
158.3
Bhuvneshwar to Bell, out Caught by Pankaj Singh!! For a moment, it looked like Bell nailed this, but he's mistimed it to mid-on. End of a marathon knock from Bell. Full delivery on the leg stump, Bell steps out to a full delivery, doesn't find the middle of the bat and mid-on runs to his left to complete an easy catch. In fact, the ball hit the bottom of the bat on that occasion. Bell gets a standing ovation as he walks off. Bell c Pankaj Singh b Bhuvneshwar 167(256) [4s-19 6s-3]
Joe Root c Dhoni b Bhuvneshwar 3 25 0 0 12.00
127.2
Bhuvneshwar to J Root, out Caught by Dhoni!! Bhuvi strikes finally! His first of the game. The ploy to keep rotating the bowlers has worked for Dhoni. Not the best way to get out though. It was on a length and shaping away outside off, Root walks down the wicket and pokes at it tentatively, the outside edge is found and Dhoni does the rest behind the wicket. Root could have just left that alone as it was well wide of off-stump. J Root c Dhoni b Bhuvneshwar 3(25)
Moeen Ali c A Rahane b Bhuvneshwar 12 28 1 0 42.86
135.5
Bhuvneshwar to Moeen Ali, out Caught by Rahane at second slip!! The short ball brings about the downfall of Ali yet again. Top catch from Jinks Rahane. Bhuvi bangs this short and wide outside off, Ali shapes up for a mighty pull, he does not get hold of it. The ball skews off the toe end of the bat towards the slip cordon. Rahane dives across first slip to snaffle the take. Moeen Ali c Rahane b Bhuvneshwar 12(28) [4s-1]
Jos Buttler (wk)b R Jadeja 85 83 9 3 102.41
163.4
Ravindra Jadeja to Buttler, out Bowled!! Oh no! I am sorry Jos Buttler. Shouldn't have jinxed it. And Alastair Cook has declared. Flatter delivery on the off stump, Buttler looks for a cut but drags it back onto the off stump. End of an entertaining innings and more importantly, it came quickly at a time when England needed it. Buttler b Ravindra Jadeja 85(83) [4s-9 6s-3]

India innings

Batting R B 4s 6s SR
Murali Vijay b Broad 35 95 5 0 36.84
29.5
Broad to Vijay, out Bowled!! Gone! Vijay's concentration was wavering, especially in this over and he has perished. Wanted to leave that outside off offering, was late in doing so, the ball cannoned onto the stumps, via a thick inside edge. Broad exults. He has deserved that wicket, for he relentlessly kept picking away at Vijay. Vijay smashes his bat into his pads in frustration, on the way back. The door is now open for England. Vijay b Broad 35(95) [4s-5]
Shikhar Dhawan c Cook b J Anderson 6 17 1 0 35.29
6.3
J Anderson to Dhawan, out Caught by Cook!! The change of angle has reaped instant reward for Jimmy. He has consumed Dhawan for the third time this series. This was a teasing full ball swinging away around off, Dhawan is squared up as he pokes at it limply, the outside edge carries through to the now back-to-form Cook, who pouches it. Dhawan c Cook b J Anderson 6(17) [4s-1]
Cheteshwar Pujara c J Buttler b Broad 24 52 3 0 46.15
23.2
Broad to Pujara, out Caught by Buttler!! Now he goes! First dismissal for Buttler in Tests. Vicious short delivery that, aimed at the nose of Pujara, he was caught in a tangle and couldn't avoid the incoming snorter. Gloved on the way to Buttler. First breakthrough for England on day 3. Another start for Che and another give-away. Pujara c Buttler b Broad 24(52) [4s-3]
Virat Kohli c Cook b J Anderson 39 75 3 0 52.00
47.6
J Anderson to Kohli, out Caught by Cook at first slip!! Another Indian batsmen who has thrown away a start. This was similar to the previous delivery, he should have left that alone, but instead he pokes at it, the outside edge is found and Cook does not make a mistake this time. He does not make much of the reprieve he got in the last over and another failure for him in this series. Kohli c Cook b J Anderson 39(75) [4s-3]
Ajinkya Rahane c (sub)Sean Terry b M Ali 54 113 5 0 47.79
70.1
Moeen Ali to Rahane, out Caught by substitute!! Lack in concentration by Rahane. Moeen Ali keeps taking important wickets for England. It is his 9th in the series. A real long hop, Rahane's eyes lit up when he saw that, he rocked back and went to pull it over mid-wicket, gets a toe-end and the ball skies towards mid-wicket, the substitute settles under it and takes it comfortably. Rahane knew what he had done, he looked down and walked off as soon as the catch was taken. Rahane c sub b Moeen Ali 54(113) [4s-5]
Rohit Sharma c Broad b M Ali 28 61 3 0 45.90
66.2
Moeen Ali to Rohit, out Caught by Broad!! Rohit perishes at the stroke of Tea, he has thrown it away just like how Kohli did. He immediately went down on his knees in sheer disappointment. This was slower through the air around off, Rohit skates down the track, miscues the loft and picks out Broad at mid-off. The crisis deepens for the visitors. Rohit c Broad b Moeen Ali 28(61) [4s-3]
MS Dhoni (captain & wk)c J Buttler b J Anderson 50 113 5 1 44.25
104.2
J Anderson to Dhoni, out Caught by Buttler!! Dhoni walks! As soon as he gloved it behind, he tucked the bat under his arm-pit and off he goes. Good short delivery, targetting the ribs, Dhoni went for the pull, but the ball got big on him and he could only glove it behind. Loopy catch for Buttler and a fourth wicket for Anderson. Dhoni c Buttler b J Anderson 50(113) [4s-5 6s-1]
Ravindra Jadeja lbw b J Anderson 31 52 6 0 59.62
88.1
J Anderson to Ravindra Jadeja, out Lbw!! It was the nip-backer from Jimmy. The double bluff hoodwinks Jaddu. Jimmy exults. This was the vicious indipper from the Burnley Express, Jadeja plays all around it, falls over, and struck on the pads in line with middle. The umpire raises his dreaded finger to end his brief counterattack. India are still 294 runs in arrears. Ravindra Jadeja lbw b J Anderson 31(52) [4s-6]
Bhuvneshwar Kumar c Ballance b Broad 19 35 4 0 54.29
98.4
Broad to Bhuvneshwar, out Caught by Ballance at third slip!! There goes India's 8th wicket. Inducker from Broad, Bhuvi prods forward, only manages an inside edge, which kisses the pad and loops through to the slip cordon. Ballance dives forward and pouches it safely. Bhuvneshwar c Ballance b Broad 19(35) [4s-4]
Mohammed Shami c J Buttler b J Anderson 5 15 1 0 33.33
106.1
J Anderson to Shami, out Caught by Buttler!! That is innings over! And five for Anderson. The birthday boy finishes it off. Unplayable short delivery - that would've troubled any top order bat, Shami is just a tailender, he cannot get out of the way as the ball angles in, gloved to Buttler. Similar delivery to the one that got Che out, and much like Che, Shami couldn't drop the gloves. The ball just followed him wickedly and he wasn't good enough. Shami c Buttler b J Anderson 5(15) [4s-1]

Bhuvneshwar to Sam Robson, out Caught by Dhawan!! Just when it looked like Bhuvneshwar was struggling, he bowls a good nut and gets Sam Robson out. Beautiful outswinger, made Robson play at that, the feet didn't move to the pitch, just prodded at it and the healthy edge was well held at first slip. Comfortable catching height for Dhawan who hangs on. Sam Robson c Dhawan b Bhuvneshwar 13(20) [4s-2]
Alastair Cook (captain)not out 70 114 7 0 61.40
Gary Ballance c Pujara b R Jadeja 38 48 5 1 79.17
20.5
Ravindra Jadeja to Ballance, out Caught by Pujara!! Ballance looks perplexed with that decision. Hot-Spot doesn't pick up anything. No wonder Ballance was unhappy. Erasmus makes the wrong call. It spun in and missed the bat, hit the pad and then rolled onto the thigh pad before lobbing to Che. Big appeal from India and Erasmus with a shrug of the trouser ruled it out after a thought. Ballance c Pujara b Ravindra Jadeja 38(48) [4s-5 6s-1]
Ian Bell b R Jadeja 23 21 4 0 109.52
26.2
Ravindra Jadeja to Bell, out Bowled!! Jadeja strikes! The dangerous looking Ian Bell is gone. A much needed wicket for India, as these two were getting runs quite easily. Tossed up, lands on the rough, Bell goes for the sweep and misses, the ball deflects off the pads and hits leg-stump. Bell b Ravindra Jadeja 23(21) [4s-4]
Joe Root b R Jadeja 56 41 9 0 136.59
40.4
Ravindra Jadeja to J Root, out Bowled!! Root perishes in pursuit of more quick runs. England have declared. Jadeja gets some spin in from the rough, Root sets up for a monstrous slog-sleep, does not get any bat onto it, the ball clatters onto the middle stump. Root and Cook troop off the field. Murali Vijay run out (Broad) 12 35 1 0 34.29
11.1
Woakes to Dhawan, out Vijay Run Out!! This is not the way that Vijay would have expected to get out. There was never a run in that. Still he went for it and was caught short. A short of length delivery on the body, Dhawan tucks it to the on-side, looks up at his partner, who calls him for the single, Broad runs from mid-wicket, picks up the ball and under-arms it, hits the bulls-eye at the striker's end. The third umpire had to make an easy call as Vijay was an inch short of the crease. A bonus wicket that for England. Vijay run out (Broad) 12(35) [4s-1]
Shikhar Dhawan c C Jordan b J Root 37 85 6 0 43.53
28.6
J Root to Dhawan, out Caught by Jordan!! On your bike, Dhawan, says Root. He sets off on a celebratory sprint. Was that a case of a lapse in concentration after the break? Root enjoys some good turn and bounce, Dhawan is drawn forward as he prods at it and nicks it to first slip, where Jordan snaffles the loopy catch. Dhawan c Jordan b J Root 37(85) [4s-6]
Cheteshwar Pujara c C Jordan b M Ali 2 6 0 0 33.33
12.2
Moeen Ali to Pujara, out Caught by Jordan!! India in trouble! Moeen Ali once again provides a crucial breakthrough. This was the straighter one, Pujara plays for the turn, the ball takes the edge and goes to the right of the slip fielder, Jordan dives and plucks out a one-handed stunner. The bowling change has worked for Cook and England. Pujara c Jordan b Moeen Ali 2(6)
Virat Kohli c J Buttler b M Ali 28 56 3 0 50.00
32.2
Moeen Ali to Kohli, out Caught by Buttler!! Kohli has nicked off now. Ali continues to be a thorn in India's flesh. This one goes on with the arm just outside off, Kohli dangles his bat, Moeen snares the outside edge and Buttler juggles but manages to cling on. India sink to 89-4. Kohli c Buttler b Moeen Ali 28(56) [4s-3]

43.3
J Anderson to Rohit, out Caught by Buttler!! Gone! Anderson is leaping around in delight. Rohit stands there - was he unhappy at himself or with the decision? Real Time Snicko picks up a slight deflection. So that should settle any doubt. Could've left that outside off offering alone, but he just pushed at it limply and a thin feather through to Buttler. India lose a wicket very early on, on day 5. The end might be nigh here! Rohit c Buttler b J Anderson 6(28)
MS Dhoni (captain & wk)c J Buttler b J Anderson 6 11 1 0 54.55
47.2
J Anderson to Dhoni, out Caught by Buttler!! Now Dhoni goes. What a bowler this Anderson is. Pumps his fist vigorously to send Dhoni back. For the nth time, Dhoni cannot handle a delivery in the corridor of uncertainty, he just pushes forward to defend, doesn't cover the line properly and a healthy edge behind where Buttler dives to take a good catch. The wheels are coming off now. Dhoni c Buttler b J Anderson 6(11) [4s-1]
Ravindra Jadeja b M Ali 15 43 2 0 34.88
60.1
Moeen Ali to Ravindra Jadeja, out Bowled!! Atrocious shot from Ravindra Jadeja! He looks shocked after getting out. He can think about it while making the long way back. 12th wicket for Moeen Ali in the series. He continues to have fun. Jadeja was looking for the big hit down the ground, all he managed was an inside edge back onto the stumps. England just three away now from a series levelling win. Ravindra Jadeja b Moeen Ali 15(43) [4s-2]
Bhuvneshwar Kumar c J Anderson b M Ali 0 4 0 0 0.00
60.5
Moeen Ali to Bhuvneshwar, out Caught by J Anderson!! Four for Moeen Ali. England finishing this off pretty quickly. Duck for Bhuvneshwar. A big inside edge onto the pads and the ball lobs to 2nd slip. Easy catch and the English players are all smiles. It turned in sharply and Bhuvneshwar didn't cover the line properly while trying to defend forward. Bhuvneshwar c J Anderson b Moeen Ali 0(4)
Mohammed Shami b M Ali 0 4 0 0 0.00
62.6
Moeen Ali to Shami, out Bowled!! Five for Moeen Ali. Great moment for him. He has a huge smile on his face and pumps his fist. Shami didn't have a clue about that - trying to defend off the back foot and lost his leg stump, to a ball that turned in sharply. The abject surrender continues. Shami b Moeen Ali 0(4)
Pankaj Singh b M Ali 9 7 2 0 128.57
66.4
Moeen Ali to Pankaj Singh, out Bowled!! 6-fer for Moeen Ali. England win by a resounding 266 runs to level the series. This is England's first Test triumph after 353 days. This was the straight roller from Ali, pushed through on off, Pankaj plays for the turn and hears the rattle of the timber. Pankaj Singh b Moeen Ali 9(7) [4s-2]
