COMMENTARY

Kolkata Knight Riders beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets (D/L method) | Sunrisers Hyderabad Vs Kolkata Knight Riders Eliminator match

    • So that's it from us for this game. It was a long wait but as long as we had a result, nobody would have minded it. Kolkata will be relieved with the win. They now face Mumbai at this very same ground on May 19th at 2000 local (1430 GMT). We look forward to your company for it. Until then, goodbye and take care!

    • Man of the Match, Nathan Coulter-Nile says that his head is a bit better now after some days. Informs that sleep was the cure there and now he is probably over the headaches. Mentions that the Kolkata pitch had much more pace and bounce compared to this wicket. Reckons that David Warner's wicket was a crucial one as he could change the course of the game. Says that they were a bit itchy and confident as well as they were waiting for their chance to just turn out on the field. Ends by saying that he is looking forward to the Mumbai game.

    • Kolkata skipper, Gautam Gambhir says that the credit goes to the bowlers. Feels that they dug deep and set up the game for them. Adds that the message was to be intense on the field as it has got cost them before. Credits the entire squad for playing well since the last time it was Hyderabad who beat them in Eliminator. Feels that the ball stopped a bit but came on better on the bat in the chase. He opines that team batting first are often targetting too many batting first and need to target 150-160 which is par on this ground. Admits that they were nervous and says that the bowlers deserved the victory. Calls Mumbai a quality side but hopes that they can give one back to them as they do not have a good record against them.

    • Hyderabad skipper, David Warner says that they were 30 runs short. Feels that this was a really tough wicket to bat on and it has been a tough one throughout the season. Mentions that they did not bat well. Praises the Kolkata bowlers for bowling really well. Reckons that they came out charged up with a positive intent but they hardly had any runs to defend in the end. Informs that they played good cricket but unfortunately it is not their year this time. Ends by thanking the people in Hyderabad for coming out in huge numbers.

    • Credit must also go the groundstaff. They have relaid the outfield and the new system to counter the rain came out fruitful today. On any other ground, after a 2-hour rain break, you normally don't see games happening but thankfully, we got enough time for a curtailed game.

    • Hyderabad have only themselves to blame. They did not help their cause with the poor batting performance and now crash out of the tournament despite being one of the best teams in the tournament. David Warner and co should be proud of the way they fought. They will realize that on the day which mattered the most, they faltered and were outplayed.

    • Kolkata have survived a real scare here. When it was bucketing down, it looked like they could crash out of the tournament due to the weather but the rain gods knew it would have been unfair on them and hence they relented. They had to chase down 48 and despite the early wickets, skipper Gautam Gambhir played through to saw his team over the line. They will be might pleased with the effort.

    • End of over 6 ( 3 Runs )KKR 48/3 5.2Bipul Sharma to Ishank Jaggi. 1 run, KOLKATA WIN! Short outside off, Jaggi camps back and goes for the glory shot. Gets it off the inside edge towards the mid-wicket region for a single. KOLKATA WIN BY 7 WICKETS (DLS METHOD).

    • 5.1Bipul Sharma to Gautam Gambhir. 1 run, Down the leg side, Gambhir shuffles across and clips it through the backward square leg region for an easy single. Scores level.

    • Warner turns to Bipul Sharma! Hyderabad have not bowled well at all. Kolkata only need 2 more runs in 6 balls.

    • End of over 5 ( 5 Runs )KKR 46/3 4.6Rashid Khan to Ishank Jaggi. no run, Shorter again on the stumps, Jaggi mistimes his pull towards the mid on fielder. No runs taken.

    • 4.5Rashid Khan to Gautam Gambhir. 1 run, Quicker one down the leg side, Gambhir makes room and cuts it really late. Still manages to get it through the point region for a single.

    • 4.4Rashid Khan to Ishank Jaggi. 1 run, Very full outside off, Jaggi drives it towards sweeper cover for a single.

    • 30 runs for Gautam Gambhir 4.3Rashid Khan to Gautam Gambhir. 1 run, Short outside off, Gambhir chops it towards point for a single.

    • 4.2Rashid Khan to Gautam Gambhir. no run, Googly around leg, Gambhir tries to defend but gets beaten by the away turn.

    • 4.1Rashid Khan to Gautam Gambhir. 2 runs, Floated around leg, Gambhir makes room and plays the perfect inside out shot over the cover region for a couple.

    • End of over 4 ( 14 Runs )KKR 41/3 3.6Siddarth Kaul to Gautam Gambhir. 1 run, Shorter delivery again around off, Gambhir just drops it towards the backward point region for a quick single. He will retain the strike. Clever piece of batting from the Kolkata skipper.

    • 3.5Siddarth Kaul to Ishank Jaggi. 1 run, Fuller delivery into the stumps, Jaggi clips it through the square leg region for a single.

    • 3.4Siddarth Kaul to Gautam Gambhir. 1 run, Shorter delivery into the stumps, Gambhir just defends it on the leg side and scampers across for a single.

    • There is a change of ball as the previous one has become too wet.

Defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the eliminator of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Whichever team wins this game will advance to the next stage of the tournament and clash swords with Mumbai Indians (MI) to decide the second finalist of IPL 2017 whereas, the team losing today will be eliminated. Both teams have played against each other twice in IPL 2017 group stages, which saw KKR winning the first game 17 runs and SRH winning the second game by 48 runs. However, KKR have a 7-4 advantage if overall records are taken into consideration. But amidst the buzz regarding the first eliminator, there are chances of rain playing the spoilsport. If that happens SRH having finished higher on points table go through.

This is the Eliminator of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. The winner of this match will play Qualifier 2 with the losing team of Qualifier 1 in an attempt to qualify for the final match to be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad on May 21. The eliminator is a huge chance for the teams qualifying at positions third and fourth in the group stage. In the previous season, Sunrisers Hyderabad qualified for the final after playing both Eliminator and Qualifier 2 and eventually went on to defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to claim their maiden IPL title.

In the previous season, it was David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) who posted a deserving victory against Gautam Gambhir’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the eliminator and qualified to face Gujarat Lions in Qualifier 2. SRH had posted 162 for 8 batting first at the Ferozshah Kotla Stadium in Delhi. While Warner scored a run-a-ball 28, a major contribution came from Yuvraj Singh who added 44 off 30, hitting 8 fours and a six in the process. Moises Henriques (31) and Deepak Hooda (21) also added crucial runs. Chasing the target, the KKR skipper also scored a run-a-ball 28 but no one from KKR could step up to play the match-winning knock. Manish Pandey’s 36 was commendable but could not save the side from a 22-run defeat. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was at his best, picking up 3 for 19 while Henriques contributed with the ball as well, as he bagged a couple of crucial wickets.
