Kolkata Knight Riders beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets (D/L method) | Sunrisers Hyderabad Vs Kolkata Knight Riders Eliminator match
More...
So that's it from us for this game. It was a long wait but as long as we had a result, nobody would have minded it. Kolkata will be relieved with the win. They now face Mumbai at this very same ground on May 19th at 2000 local (1430 GMT). We look forward to your company for it. Until then, goodbye and take care!
Man of the Match, Nathan Coulter-Nile says that his head is a bit better now after some days. Informs that sleep was the cure there and now he is probably over the headaches. Mentions that the Kolkata pitch had much more pace and bounce compared to this wicket. Reckons that David Warner's wicket was a crucial one as he could change the course of the game. Says that they were a bit itchy and confident as well as they were waiting for their chance to just turn out on the field. Ends by saying that he is looking forward to the Mumbai game.
Kolkata skipper, Gautam Gambhir says that the credit goes to the bowlers. Feels that they dug deep and set up the game for them. Adds that the message was to be intense on the field as it has got cost them before. Credits the entire squad for playing well since the last time it was Hyderabad who beat them in Eliminator. Feels that the ball stopped a bit but came on better on the bat in the chase. He opines that team batting first are often targetting too many batting first and need to target 150-160 which is par on this ground. Admits that they were nervous and says that the bowlers deserved the victory. Calls Mumbai a quality side but hopes that they can give one back to them as they do not have a good record against them.
Hyderabad skipper, David Warner says that they were 30 runs short. Feels that this was a really tough wicket to bat on and it has been a tough one throughout the season. Mentions that they did not bat well. Praises the Kolkata bowlers for bowling really well. Reckons that they came out charged up with a positive intent but they hardly had any runs to defend in the end. Informs that they played good cricket but unfortunately it is not their year this time. Ends by thanking the people in Hyderabad for coming out in huge numbers.
Credit must also go the groundstaff. They have relaid the outfield and the new system to counter the rain came out fruitful today. On any other ground, after a 2-hour rain break, you normally don't see games happening but thankfully, we got enough time for a curtailed game.
Hyderabad have only themselves to blame. They did not help their cause with the poor batting performance and now crash out of the tournament despite being one of the best teams in the tournament. David Warner and co should be proud of the way they fought. They will realize that on the day which mattered the most, they faltered and were outplayed.
Kolkata have survived a real scare here. When it was bucketing down, it looked like they could crash out of the tournament due to the weather but the rain gods knew it would have been unfair on them and hence they relented. They had to chase down 48 and despite the early wickets, skipper Gautam Gambhir played through to saw his team over the line. They will be might pleased with the effort.
