Kolkata Knight Riders beat Mumbai Indians by 34 runs | Kolkata Knight Riders Vs Mumbai Indians Match 47
More...
We're done with this one. Kolkata bounce back after 6 successive defeats and finally break the hoodoo. Mumbai won't suffer too much with this loss, just have to pick themselves up and move on to the next one quickly. Anyway, moving on, on Monday Hyderabad host Punjab and the action begins at 2000 local (1430 GMT). Do tune in for that one. Cheers!
Man of the Match, Andre Russell, says he's an Avengers fan and has been for a while. On being mentioned that there could be a superhero called Dre Russ, the all-rounder says he doesn't mind that at all. States that there are several reasons for his power-hitting, which include things like his bat speed, balance and core strength. Feels that he was just striking the ball well which he's pleased about. Mentions that they knew the conditions and applauds his bowlers for executing their plans well.
Kolkata skipper, Dinesh Karthik, says whatever happens, at the end of the day you have believe in the process and just make sure everyone is backing each other. Adds that at the end of the day, it's just a game and everyone should enjoy their experience. Reckons that it was a difficult track to bowl on and credits Hardik Pandya for the way he was striking the ball. States that he knew that it just takes one bad shot in such chases so he always believed his team would get over the line. On Shubman Gill, DK says he's really happy with his progress and mentions he's an important player for the team. On Andre Russell, Karthik laughs and says he's going to have to tell him to hit them with less power as the ball might get lost some time. Ends by thanking the Kolkata crowd for coming out and always supporting the team in huge numbers.
Hardik Pandya also comes in for a little talk. He says that he is disappointed he missed out on a ton. Mentions that he was lucky that he hit everything off the middle. Further adds that he did not think a lot, he just went there and was going after the bowlers straightaway. Reckons that he is holding his shape really well and he is very confident about his game at the moment. States that they needed a miracle and if Krunal could have got a couple of big hits, then it would have been possible. Ends by saying that he is happy with where they finished as the run rate has not been affected a lot.
Mumbai skipper, Rohit Sharma, says they did not get a good start, kept losing wickets and it kept getting more and more difficult. Admits that Hardik Pandya needed support and had he got it, it could have been a different story. Mentions that they tried everything they could with the ball but it did not work. Credits the way the Kolkata batsmen played. Further adds that they will learn from this and they will find answers going forward and he backs his bowlers to bounce back. States that you need to believe to chase down such scores and you need more than a couple of people to put their hand up because one man can't do it alone. Ends by saying that they need to regroup, they are playing at home and they know the conditions so they are confident.
The Kolkata bowlers were relentless. Barring the onslaught from Hardik, they kept everyone under check and kept picking wickets at regular intervals, which added to the already mounted scoreboard pressure. Except for Warrier, everyone who bowled chipped in with the wickets. Narine, Gurney and Russell got 2 each, while Chawla got 1. Plenty of positives for them to take, while a lot to work on for the Mumbai outfit. A timely reminder to them about the levels they need to maintain in this competition.
A comfortable win for Kolkata means they're still in the hunt and Mumbai will have to wait at least another game to qualify for the playoffs. An all-round performance from the hosts. They were colossus with the bat which did all the damage and then, were clinical with the ball. They got rid of Rohit and de Kock early, which dented the chase in a big way. Hardik Pandya kept hope alive as he was hitting the ball sweetly and to all parts of the ground, but there was no support for him from anyone else and it eventually proved to be too much for one man to do it alone. The all-rounder fell 9 short of what would have been a well-deserved ton.

End of over 18 ( 11 Runs )MI 185/6 17.6Harry Gurney to Hardik Pandya. out, OUT! In the air... and there goes Mumbai's hopes of pulling of a miracle! End of an unbelievable innings by Hardik Pandya. Brutal hitting by the all-rounder. However, it has come to an end. He falls prey to a short ball outside off, he looks to muscle it over long on but only manages to hit it high up in the air in that region. Russell there settles under it and takes it with ease.
17.5Harry Gurney to Hardik Pandya. no run, A rare dot! Lovely bowling! It is a dipping slower one on off, Hardik seems to be deceived by it. He jams it out at the very end.
17.4Harry Gurney to Hardik Pandya. FOUR, FOUR! Brilliant, just brilliant! This is not a very bad delivery, it is full and on off. Hardik somehow gets it in the gap at the cover region and bags a boundary.
Dinesh Karthik will be having a little flashback here. A similar situation was presented earlier when his side was facing Bangalore. Just that, he was at the other end of the situation. Right now, he'd be feeling like Kohli right now. There, they needed 70-odd to win in 4 overs. Now, DK's side has to defend 70-odd in 4 overs. Muscle Russell was on their side, now they have to face up against Kung Fu (Hardik) Pandya. Going to be real interesting.
17.3Harry Gurney to Hardik Pandya. SIX, SIX! This is why, all Krunal needed to do is give the strike to Hardik. Stays deep inside his crease and Gurney bowls it on the pads. Hardik whips it into the square leg stands.

16.1Sunil Narine to Hardik Pandya. FOUR, FOUR! Hardik continues with the onslaught. Tossed up and well outside off, the all-rounder reaches out and bangs it straight back over the bowler's head. No stopping that, it's a boundary.

End of over 16 ( 20 Runs )MI 160/5 15.6Piyush Chawla to Hardik Pandya. 1 run, Punched off the back foot by the batsman. The batsmen have run through for a single. Mumbai need 73 runs to win off 24 balls.
15.5Piyush Chawla to Hardik Pandya. FOUR, FOUR! This is a poor ball. Once again this is too far outside off and quite short in length, Hardik reaches out to it and hammers it through extra cover for a boundary.
15.4Piyush Chawla to Hardik Pandya. FOUR, FOUR! Shot. Short and wide outside off, Hardik crashes it through the point region and finds the fence.
150 runs for MI 150 runs for MI 15.3Piyush Chawla to Hardik Pandya. byes, 4 runs, FOUR BYES! No chance for Karthik to stop that one. Chawla fires it really quick around leg, it goes right through between bat and pad and past the keeper. It races away to the fine leg fence for a boundary.
15.2Piyush Chawla to Krunal Pandya. 1 run, Dropped! A big mix-up between the keeper and the fielder and both have made a mess of it. Chawla tosses up the googly around off, Krunal gets low to slog it hard but gets a top edge instead which skies on the off side. DK is running for it, so is Uthappa from covers. Both are calling for it but none of the two hear each other's call. They collide and end up dropping the ball. Single taken.

Length ball around off which shapes away off the seam, Lewis plays away from his body and nicks it behind. DK moves to his left and collects it comfortably.
Strategic break. Mumbai off to a faulty start here as they've lost two key players in de Kock and Rohit rather early. The ball very much in Kolkata's court and they'll feel confident about defending this. Mumbai do have the firepower, but they need to start scoring now itself. Can't afford to waste any more time. Also, Andre Russell is introduced into the bowling attack.
End of over 6 ( 12 Runs )MI 41/2 5.6Harry Gurney to Evin Lewis. 1 run, Yorker fired in on off stump, Lewis digs it out on the off side and rushes to the other end. That's the end of the Powerplay, which clearly belongs to Kolkata. Mumbai are 41/2 at the end of it, compared to the hosts' 50/0.

The Mumbai captain reviews it and replays show the ball is clipping the bails, so the on-field call won't be overturned. The visitors have lost both their openers and are in some serious trouble here. They needed one of either de Kock or Rohit to bat through, or provide a fiery start at least.

1.4Sunil Narine to Rohit Sharma. FOUR, FOUR! No one in the deep and a boundary! Taking advantage of this attacking field is Rohit Sharma. Steps down the track and this time goes ahead with the slog. He does not connect it well but hits it well enough to bag a boundary in the mid-wicket region.
