That ends the coverage of the first game. Hope you enjoyed it. Hop over to the other tab where Bangalore are taking on Rajasthan. Bangalore have a habit of playing last ball thrillers, so we may have another close game there! Tata
Ravindra Jadeja: 'It was a good game for us. It was a crucial game for us. I was just trying to see the ball and hit it, as there was no time to think at that time. Wicket was pretty slow - it was good for spinners and the ball wasn't coming on to the bat. I tried to bowl slow in the air and it helped. I played 3 good shots for my team and I was just backing myself. I like 'baappu' more than 'Sir'. But I'm enjoying the 'Sir' tag - it's a good time-pass for our team. (laughs)
Sir is the Man of the Match. Don't ask me who he is...
Dhoni: 'We didn't really bat well. We'll have to be more consistent in this area. Our bowlers did a good job and our fielding was good. The run outs brought us back in the game. Delaying the spinners helped us as it wasn't easy to rotate strike in the middle overs. That's an area where we have to plan as batsmen (on whom to attack). You have to take risks accordingly and plan. Maybe that involves a bit of risk but the successful batsmen are just of 2 types - the ones who don't think anything and the ones who plan. Ravindra Jadeja is 'Sir', we all know that! (Laughs). He's doing well, not only here but also in the Indian team. We want him to be comfortable in the dressing room. He's enjoying the fact that we're calling him 'Sir'. But he thinks it's the 'Sir' in English but it's actually the Sir in Hindi (meaning head).'
Gambhir: 'There was some school boy errors. When you win the toss and when you're 46/1, you have to get more than 119. The pitch gets better under lights. We saw that in the last game as well. A lot of credit to the bowlers for restricting Chennai as much as they could. We had to put pressure on the batsmen, there is no point taking the game till the last over, so we had to bowl Sunil and Senanayake as early as we could. Our batting line up has to pull up our socks. It's high time we get better with the bat'
Via @shravankris: I think Ravindra Jadeja is taking Sir Ravindra Jadeja too seriously.
Timely tweet, as Bangladesh have lost a Test against Zimbabwe. Via @thecricketcouch 'I think Jadeja can beat Bangladesh right handed.'
Narine, who takes the purple cap: '20 more runs were needed. We still put in a good job but we didn't come out on top. Senanayake makes it easier for me. The guys gave a lot of effort but we have to think a bit more about our game plan. As a spinner, I get a lot more purchase with the new ball. We just have to continue and play better cricket than what we did today.'
Credit to Kolkata for a great fightback though. Defending just 120 was never going to be easy against a batting line up like Chennai's but Kolkata kept trying till the end. Chennai tried a few things - like sending Ashwin to open the batting - and as always, left it for their lower order to do the tough work. Today, Jadeja did just that and took them over the line.
Let me announce the Man of the Match before the official judges do - it is obviously Ravindra Jadeja. 3 for 20 with the ball, 2 catches, and then an absolute beauty of an innings to finish the game. He almost made it look as if it was an easy track to hit - something which the other batsmen in the game wouldn't agree with.
End of over 20 ( Runs )CHN 124/6 19.1Yusuf Pathan to Ravindra Jadeja. SIX, Sir Ravindra Jadeja! Smashes the first ball out of the ground, removes his helmet and waves his bat to the dressing room. What an unbelievable knock he has played. 36 off 14 balls on a tough track to finish the game. Let me tell you how he finished it - it was a short ball from Yusuf Pathan, Jadeja went back and pulled it away over deep mid wicket. Yet another low scoring thriller, but Chennai held their nerves and clinched it.
Yusuf Pathan [1.0-0-3-1] is back into the attack
Just 2 needed now. 15 runs from the penultimate over. Jadeja has played a little beauty of an innings!
End of over 19 ( Runs )CHN 118/6 30 runs for Ravindra Jadeja 18.6Jacques Kallis to Ravindra Jadeja. 1 run, good length and angled in, Jadeja flicks it to deep mid wicket and keeps strike
18.5Jacques Kallis to Dwayne Bravo. 1 run, fuller length delivery on the off, Bravo drives it to long off for a single
18.4Jacques Kallis to Dwayne Bravo. FOUR, Bravo joins in. This over has killed the contest. A short delivery again with fine leg inside the circle, Bravo swivels and helps it round the corner to the deep backward square leg boundary
18.3Jacques Kallis to Ravindra Jadeja. 1 run, low full toss, Jadeja drives it to long off for one
18.2Jacques Kallis to Ravindra Jadeja. FOUR, catch dropped by Yusuf Pathan! Oh boy, what a time to drop catches! Not easy - this was short and on the body, Jadeja pulled it uppishly to deep square leg, was dying on YP as he ran in but he was in no position to take it. Worse, he lets the ball go through
18.1Jacques Kallis to Ravindra Jadeja. FOUR, not a good delivery! A full toss and Jadeja creams it to deep extra cover, Kallis was trying the yorker but he has got it all wrong
Jacques Kallis [3.0-0-17-1] is back into the attack
Via @SirJadeja on twitter: Narine hit #SirJadeja for SIX earlier. Now it's time for some revenge.
Now, who'll bowl the last 2 overs? Kallis will one. He'll bowl now.
End of over 18 ( Runs )CHN 103/6 17.6Sunil Narine to Ravindra Jadeja. 1 run, another seam up delivery, Jadeja drives it to long off and successfully sees off Narine
17.5Sunil Narine to Dwayne Bravo. 1 run, a leg break, Bravo runs it down to short third man
17.4Sunil Narine to Ravindra Jadeja. leg byes, 1 run, seam up delivery - full and down the leg side, goes off the pads to the on side as Jadeja misses a flick
17.3Sunil Narine to Ravindra Jadeja. no run, flat and short, Jadeja cuts it to point. No single there
100 runs for CHN 17.2Sunil Narine to Ravindra Jadeja. SIX, Ravindra Jadeja! He has smashed Narine straight down the ground! Superb shot that! Flat through the air but wide outside off, Jadeja stands and swats it straight over the sightscreen
17.1Sunil Narine to Dwayne Bravo. 1 run, flat and on the off, Bravo punches it to long off for one
Sunil Narine [3.0-0-11-1] is back into the attack
Last over for Narine
End of over 17 ( Runs )CHN 93/6 16.6Lakshmipathy Balaji to Ravindra Jadeja. FOUR, that's a very poor delivery to end the over. Fine leg is inside the ring and he bowls a slow, short delivery down the leg side, Jadeja swivels and pulls it over the fielder in the ring. 13 runs and the wicket of Hussey from that over
Dwayne Bravo, right handed bat, comes to the crease
16.5Lakshmipathy Balaji to Michael Hussey. out Caught by Yusuf Pathan!! Another twist. Huge wicket. A well set batsman is gone. Slower ball from round the wicket, Hussey takes a step out and heaves across the line straight to deep square leg, it was the slower one so Hussey couldn't time it well. Slow knock from Hussey, he had to finish it off and he hasn't. Michael Hussey c Yusuf Pathan b Balaji 40(51) [4s-2 6s-1]
16.4Lakshmipathy Balaji to Ravindra Jadeja. 1 run, a slow bouncer, Jadeja pulls it to short fine leg for a single
16.3Lakshmipathy Balaji to Michael Hussey. leg byes, 1 run, from round the wicket and angled in, goes off the pads to short fine leg
16.2Lakshmipathy Balaji to Ravindra Jadeja. 1 run, a low full toss, Jadeja drives it to cover and gets a quick single, the throw went to Hussey's end but he was quick
16.1Lakshmipathy Balaji to Ravindra Jadeja. SIX, what a strike that from Ravindra Jadeja! Jumps down the track first ball and smashes it high straight down the ground into the sightscreen. A clean strike and a mighty swing of the bat, superb hit!
Lakshmipathy Balaji [3.0-0-16-0] is back into the attack
40 off 24. Yet another low scoring thriller. Doing no good to my blood pressure, this tournament.
End of over 16 ( Runs )CHN 80/5 15.6Jacques Kallis to Michael Hussey. 2 runs, a slower delivery to follow up, Hussey heaves it wide of deep mid wicket, didn't time it well and will get a couple
15.5Jacques Kallis to Michael Hussey. SIX, much needed. Both for Hussey and Chennai. This was fast and on good length, Hussey heaves across the line and hits it high and over deep square leg, very much needed
15.4Jacques Kallis to Ravindra Jadeja. 1 run, slow off cutter, Jadeja runs it down to third man for a single
Ravindra Jadeja, left handed bat, comes to the crease
5 wickets down for CHN. Out batsman is S Badrinath 15.3Jacques Kallis to S Badrinath. out Bowled!! Tries to innovate but loses his stumps. Very full and straight delivery, Badrinath shuffles across and looks for a paddle scoop but misses it. I don't think Chennai would mind that wicket though - Badri was struggling. Badrinath b Kallis 6(13)
15.2Jacques Kallis to S Badrinath. no run, well disguided slower delivery. A slow bouncer, Badrinath comes down the track and looks to pull but misses
15.1Jacques Kallis to Michael Hussey. 1 run, intent straightaway, Hussey comes down the track and drives a full delivery to long off, only a single though
Only 4 runs from that over. Time out now. Chennai need 50 from the last 5. They have some big hitters to come but this pitch is certainly not easy to bat on.
End of over 15 ( Runs )CHN 70/4 14.6Sunil Narine to Michael Hussey. 1 run, cuts it square of the wicket past point, only a single
14.5Sunil Narine to Michael Hussey. no run, beaten. A bit more flight but a lot of bounce, Hussey looks to cut and misses
14.4Sunil Narine to S Badrinath. 1 run, Badrinath didn't have much clue about that one, once again flat through the air and spins away, he gets an inside edge to short fine leg
14.3Sunil Narine to S Badrinath. no run, flat, quick and straight, Badrinath can only play a backfoot defence
30 runs for Michael Hussey 14.2Sunil Narine to Michael Hussey. 1 run, slowly tossed up, Hussey comes on the frontfoot and drives it to sweeper cover
14.1Sunil Narine to S Badrinath. 1 run, flat and on the middle and leg, Badrinath tucks it to backward square leg for a single
