So, the IPL 8 final pits Chennai against Mumbai. Two of the most consistent teams in the league will fight it out. If MUM win, it will be their second title and if it's CHN, then it will be the third time for them. It is going to be a cracker of a game. Do join us on Sunday for all the action. For now, take care and Cya!
Here are some of the best tweets pertaining to this game...
Alyssa Healy: Dramatic finish!! Bad luck @BLRTweets. Great run home leading up to this game... Fantastic young squad for years to come!
Ayaz Memon: Well played Bangalore, but it is still a night of whistlepodu...
Saurabh Malhotra: 6th @IPL final for @ChennaiIPL. Remarkable consistency, start favourites for me in Kolkata.
Sarang Bhalerao: On the big day,the experienced #CHN team were just a little better against an impressive.
Freddie Wilde: I would've loved to have seen #BLR in the Final but you have to hand it to #CHN; they are a seriously good cricket team
Nehra: 'I have been in good rhythm and luck is also favoring me. I have been bowling well before, but now I am picking wickets and everybody is noticing it. I am sharing this man of the match award with Michael Hussey. I was just looking to bowl wicket-to-wicket and keep it tight to him (Gayle). He was there till the 13th over, but had not scored many runs and it build the pressure. It was a slow wicket, but the new ball does come on to the bat.'
Ashish Nehra is the Man of the Match for his figures of 3/28.
Dhoni: 'Well that's what happens when the wicket is like that (talking about it getting tight towards the end). I feel Hussey batted really well. I thought if we had scored 70 in the first 10 overs, we were in with a chance. Ashwin bowled really well against Gayle, who would have taken the game away. The fast bowlers backed him up well. We had to hold back the left-arm spinners till Gayle was there. It's very difficult to say what is the par score on this wicket. I think they were 10-12 runs short. We have improved with each and every game. We have to play sensibly and have to pick our moments. That's one area we need to improve.'
Kohli: 'I thought we were 15-20 short with the bat. We didn't have the start we wanted. Credit to the CHN bowlers, couple of unlucky dismissals for us. They just squeezed us in the middle. CHN were too good with the ball. I always think low totals are very tricky, especially with wickets like these. Unfortunately we missed 3-4 chances, you have to grab your chances and it would have been a different result if we had held on to the chances. To an extent, but I don't think it played that much of a role (talking about the dew). I am really proud with the way we fought out today and the way we played the entire tournament. The team that was better today and had more composure won the game. Good luck to both the teams in the final.'
BLR would rue the fact that their fielding was below par and they missed a few chances. Earlier on in the day, Ashish Nehra and Ravichandran Ashwin bowled with unrelenting control and were rewarded with wickets. CHN now will take on MUM in the grand final of this season's IPL at the Eden Gardens.
Michael Hussey played with calmness and composure to guide CHN to the final. On a track that assisted the spinners, Hussey's wisdom of experience proved to be the telling difference. He rotated the strike before checking in glorious shots off Yuzvendra Chahal in the 16th over to put CHN in a pole position. It got a bit tense in the end, especially with MS Dhoni losing his wicket in the final over, but CHN held their nerve to usurp their formidable foes.
The fireworks go off at Ranchi. Hugs and smiles in the CHN camp. Plenty of glum faces among the BLR players. Kohli and ABD walk off together. The CHN players come out and shake hands with their opposition.
19.5Harshal Patel to Ravichandran Ashwin. 1 run, CHN are in the final for the 6th time. Ashwin was cool as ever, he walks across his stumps and flicks it through backward square
Ravichandran Ashwin, right handed bat, comes to the crease
19.4Harshal Patel to MS Dhoni. out Caught by D Karthik!! Well, well, well. Is there still a twist in this game? Full and around off, Dhoni goes for the drive, the outside edge is gobbled up Karthik. He was looking to finish it in style and paid the price. Kohli hares across towards the bowler, he still believes that the game is alive. Dhoni c D Karthik b Harshal Patel 26(29) [4s-1]
19.3Harshal Patel to MS Dhoni. 2 runs, full and outside off, Dhoni drives wide of long-off, Kohli runs to his left, dives and makes a fine stop, a fine throw right on top of the stumps, Dhoni had made it in even as DK whipped the bails off
Third umpire pressed into service. Dhoni looks to be in. He is and that should be Not Out.
19.2Harshal Patel to MS Dhoni. no run, banged in halfway down the wicket, Dhoni toe-ends the pull to short mid-wicket, Jadeja was going for the run but is sent back
