So, that brings an end to another double-header. RAJ prevailed over CHN and strengthened their position at the top of the table. MUM registered their first win and BLR lost their second consecutive game. The bonanza continues as DEL take on KOL at the Feroz Shah Kotla tomorrow. On behalf of Mahesh, Raju, Bharath, Sriram and my co-commentators, Pradeep and Ramakrishnan, this is Akshay Maanay signing off. Cya!
Those were some of the tweets pertailing to this game..
Sanjay Manjrekar: Incredible batting today in great batting conditions by some class players. But once again AB looked in a different league.
Sid Mallya: Its not often u score 191 in the 2nd innings and still lose, so well done #MUM on a great batting and bowling performance.
Freddie Widle: Chris Gayle single-handedly lost #BLR that match. Genuinely one of the worst #IPL innings ever.
Rajneesh Gupta: Two greatest hitters of the ball in this match:Chris Gayle (10 off 24, SR 41.66)AB de Villiers (41 off 11, SR 372.72)
Harsha Bhogle: The tape on the mouth from Kieron Pollard is one of the most bizarre things I have seen. He does have a 'come look at me' about him.
Harbhajan: 'It's something which I am happy about (on playing his 100th IPL game). Really happy to be playing for MUM. I didn't know that (when told that he picked up his 100th IPL wicket tonight). It is good to be doing something for the team. The first six overs, we were on target and didn't want Gayle to get going. They had some serious players, ABD is batting in a different league, but the start was important. I am glad that we picked early wickets. Hopefully we can continue to do that.'
Harbhajan is the Man of the Match for his figures of 3/27.
Rohit: 'I think the way we batted in the first few overs was good. We were positive throughout. Good to see the batsmen applying themselves and doing well. The bowlers also bowled well on a difficult Bangalore wicket. Losing 4 out of 4 was tough to digest. The most important thing about this team is, we never thought we lost 4. Both Carribean players (Gayle and Pollard) know each other really well, it was just some fun around (when asked what he thought about the Pollard-Gayle banter). Malinga bowled pretty well, he wanted to prove a point against this strong line-up. Not only Malinga, even Bhajji (Harbhajan) and McClenaghan bowled well.'
Kohli: 'It was pretty entertaining because of how AB and Wiese played. If it wasn't for those two guys it wouldn't have been that interesting. We should have made a better effort of the target. We should have played like AB and Wiese did, but some guys got out in unlucky manner. There are plenty of things we need to look at. We always bank on the opening partnership to chase down targets. We need discpline in the bowling attack. Starc comes back and hopefully, he gets going. We need to win the next game at home before hitting the road.'
For Mumbai, Harbhajan Singh bowled a superb spell and ended up with three wickets to his name. However, their fielding was lacklustre and they dropped a slew of catches. Earlier in the day, it was Rohit Sharma and Lendl Simmons, who played sterling knocks to lift the visitors to an imposing total. The Mumbai camp certainly would be happy with winning their first game of the season.
End of over 20 ( 11 Runs )BLR 193/7 19.6Kieron Pollard to David Wiese. Bangalore sloped towards a defeat. For a while it felt as if de Villiers, with his breathtaking batsmanship, could help Bangalore script a famous win. In the 13th over, he tonked Lasith Malinga for two fours and two sixes. Even after de Villiers was dismissed, David Wiese and Iqbal Abdulla kept them in the hunt, but they had too much to do. In fact, other than de Villiers, rest of the batsmen were below par. Chris Gayle, known for his whirlwind knocks, played out a painstaking innings.
19.5Kieron Pollard to David Wiese. FOUR, MUM win! It is their first win of the campaign. The dug-out is happy as everyone shake hands and so do the players. It was fullish and just outside off, Wiese slices it between backward point and short third man. A handy innings from Wiese that
19.5Kieron Pollard to David Wiese. 2 runs, off-speed delivery on off, Wiese hammers it to long-on and scampers back for the second
19.4Kieron Pollard to Abu Nechim. 1 run, this was bowled well behind the crease, short and on off, Nechim pulls it behind square on the leg-side
19.3Kieron Pollard to David Wiese. 1 run, shortish and on the stumps, Wiese pulls it to deep backward square leg
19.2Kieron Pollard to David Wiese. no run, slower short ball, Wiese is way to early on the pull, he fails to make contact
Abu Nechim, right handed bat, comes to the crease
19.1Kieron Pollard to David Wiese. out I Abdulla Run Out!! 1 run completed. Abdulla perishes for the team. It was the slower delivery, Wiese hoicks it to long-on, Rohit drops the catch, but gets back quickly and throws it to the bowler, Pollard takes the bails off with Abdulla well short. I Abdulla run out (Rohit/Pollard) 20(15) [4s-4]
