That ends the action for the day and from the Kotla for this season, till the knockouts. Tomorrow, the carnival moves to Hyderabad where David Warner's side hosts Suresh Raina's Gujarat at 2000 IST (1430 GMT). Do join us then. Adios! Take Care!
So! Pune stay alive in the competition by upsetting Delhi tonight. They now head to Bengaluru to take on Virat Kohli's side on Saturday, 7th May, 2016 at 1600 IST (1030 GMT). Delhi, on the other hand, would be on the road now as this was their last game at the Kotla. They have a couple of games at Raipur but that is an adopted home. Their away journey starts on Saturday at Mohali, where they take on Punjab at 2000 IST (1430 GMT).
AJINKYA RAHANE HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. He says the team decision was that one batsman should bat through and it was his day. Feels his opening partnership with Khawaja was crucial as they need to bat through the new ball. On his role in the side, he says that the team expects him to bat deep and that is what he tries to do. Says that he tries to keep things simple while batting and does not try too many things.
Victorious Pune captain, MAHENDRA SINGH DHONI is pleased with his team's overall bowling effort as they kept on picking up wickets, bowling to a plan. Adds that there are plenty of positives from this game owing to that department doing well. Praises the execution of his bowlers as they bowled to the field set. Cheekily admits that his side got into an uncomfortable position in the middle overs as the Delhi spinners, Mishra and Tahir bowled well and stifled them and says that it is a hard-earned victory. Stresses that this win was very much needed as when you lose 5 games on the trot, you need a win desperately and take whatever comes your way.
Delhi skipper, JP DUMINY, believes that 162 was enough but admits that his team missed out on a few runs in the end. Praises his own team or coming back with the ball on a track which was good for batting but laments the missed chances on the field. Admits that bowling Mishra out early was a mistake and hopes to learn from this one. Praises both the leg spinners for their job. Does not want to look too much into this defeat as there are plenty of games to go before the knockouts.
Delhi produced a mix bag of bowling tonight. They started well with the ball but could not quite get the results as Pune rode on their luck. Shami had a bad night at the office but Mishra and Tahir were brilliant, bringing Delhi back in the game. They had combined figures of 8-0-54-3. Presentation coming up next...
With the match under his control, JP Duminy turned to Mohammed Shami and that turned into misery for him. With 37 needed from 3 overs, Shami went for 20 in the 18th over and that swung the momentum. Dhoni got out but Perera played a few lusty blows in the end to seal the match. Rahane kept one end going with an unbeaten 63 from 48 balls.
Saurabh Tiwary walked in at number 3 and played a fine innings as he and Rahane added 45 in quick time for the second wicket. When the left-hander fell, Pune had gotten in some trouble, as the required run rate was mounting. Delhi bowled really well and in spite of Dhoni being around, the visitors needed 37 off the last 3 overs.
Chasing 163 for victory, Pune never looked like being in any trouble. Khawaja and Rahane, two classy players, did not play exactly classy cricket and took their chances. Those paid off and they got off to a good start. With the openers adding 59, the visitors had got a platform.
Pune stay in the hunt to make it to the playoffs. They were cruising at one stage but then made things difficult for themselves losing a couple of wickets in the middle, but Delhi lost the plot and also the chance to be in the top spot in the points table.
19.1Mohammed Shami to Ajinkya Rahane. FOUR, FOUR! PUNE WIN BY 7 WICKETS AND 5 BALLS TO SPARE! Not a bad position to be in, if you are Rahane. Facing a free hit ball. Gets a full ball and flicks it through square leg for the winning boundary!
FREE HIT to finish the game?
19.1Mohammed Shami to Thisara Perera. no ball, 1 run, NO BALL! Costly mistake from Shami. Oversteps and bowls it on a length outside off, 138 kph, Perera backs away and looks to clear the infield on the off side but gets a leading edge which is calmly taken by Duminy at extra cover in the ring. Sadly for him though, the catch does not count. 2 needed now.
18.6Imran Tahir to Thisara Perera. 1 run, Full and wide outside off, TP swings hard but gets a thick outside edge behind. Good diving stop by short third man. A single taken. That could have so easily been the winning runs. 14 from the over, Tahir does well, with figures of 4-0-26-2.
18.5Imran Tahir to Thisara Perera. SIX, SIX! What a shot! Full again, outside off, 102 kph, Perera spots the wrong 'un and slog sweeps this way over mid-wicket! Just 4 needed from 7 balls now!
18.4Imran Tahir to Thisara Perera. no run, Down the track comes Thisara and swings hard but Tahir has fired this on the pads and hence the Sri Lankan cannot get it away. The ball hits his pads and Samson looks for a stumping but Perera gets back.
150 runs for RPS 18.3Imran Tahir to Thisara Perera. SIX, SIX! CRACK! And that is why Tahir should have fielded the ball on the previous delivery. Had he done that, Thisara would not have been on strike. Floated outside off, Perera gets down and underneath this one and sends the ball soaring massively over long on!
18.2Imran Tahir to Ajinkya Rahane. 1 run, A MISFIELD! How costly will this prove? Full on middle, Rahane punches this towards mid on, slightly to the right of the bowler. Tahir gets around and dives a touch, but misses and the ball goes through to long on. A single taken.
THISARA PERERA walks in at number 5, replacing Dhoni. Rahane will be on strike as the batsmen crossed.
3 wickets down for RPS. Out batsman is Ms Dhoni 18.1Imran Tahir to Ms Dhoni. out, OUT! That is a sensational catch! A length ball on middle and off, 99 kph, Dhoni swings it over mid-wicket. The ball goes flat to the mid-wicket fence but Sam Billings takes a few steps to his right at the boundary and dives to take a fine catch! The umpires take it upstairs to check whether Billings touched the ropes but no, Billings was just fine. Fabulous effort. Dhoni departs for 27, PUNE NEED 17 FROM 11 BALLS!
