Man of the Match, Andre Russell says he loves playing here. He is happy today as he played a part in this win. Adds they didn't have enough runs but he's delighted with this victory. He feels they can improve on a few areas but feels they proved tonight they are a strong side. Adds they wanted to get to the 180-run mark but credits Punjab for bowling so well at the death. He credits his boys and adds they have a few days off.
Gautam Gambhir says they were not use to this kind of wicket. Adds they batted as professional players. Mentions they didn't have any practice session after their last game. He adds they were 10 runs short today. He thinks they will be used to this wicket. Credits Russell and Morkel for grabbing wickets early on. Adds you need more players to play match-winning role and one or two players can't do the job every time. Says every game is important.
Murali Vijay says they didn't start well. Credits Maxwell for playing such a knock and thinks Axar Patel got run out at the wrong time. He is happy with his bowlers as they bowled well, especially Mohit Sharma and Sandeep Sharma for their bowling in the death overs. He thinks momentum plays a role and he is looking forward to the next few games. Adds everyone wants to win and our aim was to get 166 today. Says one has to express himself in this format. Mentions Hashim Amla arrived in the morning today and they wanted to give him a break today and might use him in the future games.
It looked like Punjab would lose easily but Glenn Maxwell played a special knock. The hard-hitter smashed 68 runs off just 42 balls and brought his team back in the game. Piyush Chawla got his wicket eventually and that proved to be the turning point. Axar Patel played a terrific cameo as well in the end but Andre Russell once again held his nerves to get his team home. The West Indian bowled a superb last over to hand his side two crucial points. Earlier, the Kolkata top order powered their side to a competitive total.
Another close finish! Boy, this league is having close finishes almost everyday! Punjab were in real trouble early on. They were reeling at 53/4 and they had to chase 165. Andre Russell was sensational once again in the Powerplay as he bowled a great spell to destroy the Punjab top order.
End of over 20 ( 5 Runs )KXIP 158/9 19.6Andre Russell to Sandeep Sharma. 1 run, THAT IS IT! Yorker on off, Sandeep squeezes it to mid-wicket and only manages to take a single. KOLKATA WIN BY 7 RUNS!
19.5Andre Russell to Swapnil Singh. out, OUT! LBW! Fuller length ball on middle and leg, Swapnil tries to dig it out but misses it completely. He is hit on the pads right in front of the stumps. Big appeal for an LBW and the umpire slowly raises his finger. Russell gets his fourth wicket and Kolkata start celebrating. Great stuff, Dre Russ!
19.4Andre Russell to Mohit Sharma. 1 run, Fullish around off, Mohit tries to flick it across but gets a leading edge to the cover region. Single taken.
MOHIT SHARMA walks in next.
19.3Andre Russell to Gurkeerat Singh Mann. out, 1 run, OUT! Another run out! What is going on here? Fuller length ball outside off, Gurkeerat lofts it over mid off and comes back for the second. Sathish (sub) throws it at the striker's end where the batsman fails to make it in. Punjab have lost the plot totally towards the end.
SWAPNIL SINGH walks out to bat.
19.2Andre Russell to Gurkeerat Singh Mann. out, OUT! PATEL IS RUN OUT! That should be it? Low full toss on off, Gurkeerat only manages to push it back to the bowler. Russell collects the ball and notices Axar has left his crease. He quickly throws it at the non-striker's end and scores a direct hit to run Axar Patel out. The crowd erupts in joy. Excellent stuff by Dre Russ!
19.1Andre Russell to Axar Patel. 1 run, Fuller length ball outside off, Patel drills it to long off for a single.
12 runs needed off the final over! Can Russell defend it? Or Patel will chase it down? Or... do we have a Super Over here?
End of over 19 ( 10 Runs )KXIP 153/6 18.6Morne Morkel to Axar Patel. 1 run, Full ball around off, Patel goes for the big shot on the leg side but gets an inside edge onto his pads. The ball goes to square leg for a single.
18.5Morne Morkel to Axar Patel. 2 runs, Fullish ball on off, Patel mistimes it through mid-wicket as the ball goes off the inside half of the bat. Two runs taken.
150 runs for KXIP 18.4Morne Morkel to Gurkeerat Singh Mann. 1 run, Fuller length ball outside off, Gurkeerat drives it to covers for a single. 150 up for Punjab!
18.3Morne Morkel to Axar Patel. 1 run, Full outside off, Patel plays it through point for a single.
18.2Morne Morkel to Axar Patel. FOUR, FOUR! Smart batting! Short of a length ball on middle, it's an off-cutter, Patel picks it early and lofts it towards third man for a boundary this time.
