That's all we have from this rain-truncated game. It was a one-sided affair with Kolkata winning comprehensively. Earlier in the day, Bangalore powered by AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli's sensational knocks crushed Gujarat to stay alive in the tournament. We have a couple of matches lined up tomorrow as well. First up, Hyderabad will host Punjab at 1600 IST while Mumbai will take on Delhi at 2000 IST. We look forward to your company then. Cheers!!!
YUSUF PATHAN IS ADJUDGED THE MAN OF THE MATCH! Says that his batting is going well, especially at a crucial time. Admits that the knock against Bangalore has given him a lot of confidence and hopes to continue doing well. Adds that he is not thinking much and is batting freely and has left the thinking job for the fielders and the opposition captains.
Kolkata's skipper Gautam Gambhir says that he has been losing a lot of tosses and today he wanted to bat first. Also says that things are going well and hopes that it will continue. Praises his bowlers for a professional show and says that restricting Pune was a great effort. He feels that quality spinners do not need surface and they have got three quality spinners. (On his field placement for MS Dhoni) He replies that he has got more confidence on his bowlers and doesn't look at the batsman. (On Pathan's outstanding batting this season) Gambhir answers that that they still have a long way to go and he doesn't want to jinx him. Also hopes that he bats in the same way and takes them a long way in the tournament.
Pune's skipper MS Dhoni says that looking at the wicket, 135-140 would have been a good score. Adds that they had to bat well but they kept losing wickets in the middle overs which put more pressure on the lower order. He feels that somebody from the top order has to bat through on such wickets. Also adds that you cannot afford to lose wickets in clusters. Further says that getting some kind of partnership on a slow wicket is really important. He emphasizes on the fact that it was important to play freely and jokes that they they have ticked on one more box, rain affected one loss was remaining and they got that. Also feels that in a 9-over match, the opposition has 10 wickets in hand and it becomes difficult.
Convincing win for Kolkata! A little bit of scare up front in the chase when they lost both their openers in the first over but then Yusuf Pathan emerged on the scene and hammered an 18-ball 37 to ease Kolkata past the winning line. Apart from the first over by Ashwin, there wasn't much fight shown by Pune. Courtesy this win, Kolkata now jump to the number 2 spot in the points table.
End of over 5 ( 9 Runs )KKR 66/2 4.6Adam Zampa to Yusuf Pathan. byes, 1 run, KOLKATA WIN BY 8 WICKETS (D/L Method)! Flighted ball around leg, Pathan goes down on one knee for the sweep shot but misses. It goes off Dhoni's pads and the short fine leg fielder moves across to his right to stop the ball. They cross for the winning run. Pathan runs in joy and Gambhir also has smile on his face, now that's a rarity!
