Rising Pune Supergiants beat Delhi Daredevils by 19 runs (D/L method) | Rising Pune Supergiants Vs Delhi Daredevils Live Score 49th T20 Match
More...
So, that wraps up the formalities of this rain-marred encounter. Tune in tomorrow for more Indian T20 League action as Bangalore are hosting Punjab in what will be another do-or-die clash for Virat Kohli's men. The weather forecast is looking ominous there with thunderstorms predicted in Bengaluru tomorrow. Let's hope for a full game though. The action starts at 2000 IST. Until then, it's good bye from us.
ASHOK DINDA (MAN OF THE MATCH) says that he is very happy with his performance and the team's win. Says that his plan was to bowl in the right lines and to swing the ball. Feels that they had tried to put up good bowling performances in all matches but it didn't work out for a majority of the season. Points out at some really close games where Pune couldn't defend big scores.
MS DHONI credits the pace bowlers for bowling well and says that it set up the platform well for the spinners. States that this was something that Pune has missed a lot this season. Also adds that his side had a bit of luck in the game with the rain.. Feels that the bowling performance was good overall. Further says that execution of plans is the most important thing in bowling. Points out that bowling has been the biggest worry this season and says about the amount of changes made in the bowling department this season. Concludes by saying that the fringe players like Deepak Chahar would get more chances in the final league game as well. Says that Chahar could have played earlier in the tournament but got injured.
ZAHEER KHAN feels that they just have to turn up in their next 2 games. Opines that his side are still in a decent position. States that his team needs to win 2 in 2 games and it's a straightforward equation for his side. Adds that his side is lacking in some portions of the game and also feels that some decisions haven't gone in his team's favor in the last 2 games. Says that the communication in the team has been good. Doesn't feel that the constant team changes between matches has affected the players' morale. Reveals that some changes were forced while some were strategic.
There were two rain interruptions in the chase. The first came after 8.2 overs with Pune 57/1. The D/L/S par score then was 42. Play did resume after about 45 minutes only to be delayed once again for what was the last delay of the game. With the rain coming down steadily, the umpires decided to call off the game although the cut off time wasn't reached. Probably, the inconsequential nature of the match was a reason too. Defeat has hurt Delhi as the visitors need to win both their remaining games to book a playoff berth. To be fair, they were below par today in all departments.
So, that's a bit of an anti-climax in the end with the weather playing spoilsport. Pune were ahead by the D/L/S method and that gives them only their fourth win of the season. Chasing a low target of 122 on a tricky pitch, the hosts lost Usman Khawaja who wasted another promising start as he sliced a full ball from Morris straight to backward point. Ajinkya Rahane carried on though and stroked his way to a fluent unbeaten 42. George Bailey gave him company as the pair added an unbroken 45 for the 2nd wicket.
Update 2355 IST - The inevitable has happened then. Handshakes all around and the match has been called off. PUNE WIN BY 19 RUNS. (D/L/S method)
Update 2340 IST - Yet another rain interruption and the players are leaving the field. Frustrating indeed. The covers have come on to the ground. D/L/S par score at this stage is 57. So, no issues for Pune at all.
10.6Mohammed Shami to Ajinkya Rahane. 1 run, Good length outside off, Rahane steers it down to third man for a single. Oh no, the rain has started to come down again.
10.5Mohammed Shami to Ajinkya Rahane. SIX, SIX! CLUBBED! Fuller on middle and off, Rahane goes across to that one and carts it over mid on. Struck it cleanly and that just clears the ropes for a maximum. That was right in the slot for the big shot and Rahane obliged.
10.4Mohammed Shami to Ajinkya Rahane. no run, Good length around off, Rahane gets back and blocks it out.
10.3Mohammed Shami to Ajinkya Rahane. FOUR, FOUR! SLICED AWAY! Short and wide outside off, Rahane throws his bat at that one and gets a thick edge to the right of the keeper as the ball races to the third man fence for a boundary.
10.2Mohammed Shami to George Bailey. leg byes, 1 run, Leg bye! Fuller on leg stump, Bailey goes across to flick but the ball rolls off the pads to short fine leg. A leg bye taken.
10.1Mohammed Shami to Ajinkya Rahane. 1 run, RAHANE SURVIVES! Good length closer to off, Rahane looks to steer it down to third man as the ball goes off the pads to short third man. Lbw appeal as Shami thought that it was pad first. But the umpire feels that the inside edge went on to hit the pads. The appeal wasn't strong either. Replays show that it was pad first and so that's a big escape for Rahane.
MOHAMMED SHAMI comes on to bowl.
9.6Amit Mishra to George Bailey. no run, Another googly outside off, Bailey gets the stride in to block but is beaten by the sharp turn to be hit on the pads. Huge appeal for lbw but the umpire feels that the ball spun too much.
30 runs for Ajinkya Rahane 9.5Amit Mishra to Ajinkya Rahane. 1 run, Slider on middle and off, Rahane makes room and pushes it to the covers for a single.
9.4Amit Mishra to Ajinkya Rahane. no run, The googly on off, spins in sharply as Rahane jabs it back at the bowler.
9.3Amit Mishra to George Bailey. 1 run, Fuller outside off, Bailey leans forward and drills it to long off for a single.
9.2Amit Mishra to Ajinkya Rahane. 1 run, Drifting in on a length outside off, Rahane goes back and cuts it past backward point for a single.
