New Zealand beat India by 6 wickets | India Vs New Zealand 1st ODI match

    • That brings us to the close of the first ODI! New Zealand have come out with flying colours. They outclassed India in all departments of the game and are the deserved winners. On the other hand, India had a bad day at office. Tough on Virat Kohli as he scored a majestic century but still his team ended on the losing side. The fielding was the biggest letdown for them and their middle order woes continue. Can they bounce back? Let's find that out in the second ODI in Pune on 25th October at 1330 local time (0800 GMT). Till then, goodbye and cheers!

    • Man of the Match, Tom Latham is really elated with the win and feels it has been a fruitful knock as keeping for 50 overs and then coming out to bat is never easy. Opines that the conditions were really humid, way different from home. Reckons he will bat wherever his team wants and whatever suits the team. On his reverse sweep, he says this is one shot he has been working on that shot and it is always nice when it comes off. Informs they (he and Taylor) decided to rotate strike and ends by praising Ross Taylor for the way he played.

    • Kane Williamson says that it has been a brilliant performance. Credits his new ball bowlers. He also praises Virat Kohli's brilliant century. Mentions that it was a really good chase from them, one of the best in recent times. States that bowling was not easy in this heat and congratulates his bowlers for giving it their all. He is pleased about the 200-run stand between Taylor and Latham calling it special. Feels that the guys have a great attitude towards the game and is happy with the all-round performance.

    • Virat Kohli is a bit disappointed but feels it has been a satisfying knock from him. Admits that New Zealand took the game away from us in the second half. Adds when the opposition gets 200-plus stand, they will often be at the right side of the result. Opines that the dew came in and they were easily 30-40 runs short. Feels that the wicket also settled down as the game progressed. Once again praises Latham and Taylor for tackling their spinners. On why didn't he make Jadhav bowl, he says they didn't feel like giving the ball to him as the wicket had turn and bounce plus Pandya did his job really well and hence they didn't feel the need.

    • Latham and Taylor break a few records, one being the highest 4th wicket stand for New Zealand and highest for any wicket at this venue. The former got to his ton but the latter departed just when his side was at the doorstep to victory. The Indians would feel what went wrong at the halfway mark. Their pacers led the way but their spinners had no answers once the duo of Latham and Taylor got in. They tried their best but it just wasn't their day. They needed to break this stand to explode the inexperienced middle order but when that happened, the match was already dragged away from them. Stay tuned for the presentation...

    • New Zealand have taken a 1-0 lead in the series and they have done that in some style. They have recorded the HIGHEST SUCCESSFUL RUN CHASE AT THE WANKHEDE and that should tell you how well they have played here. Chasing 281, the visitors got off to a steady start but then lost three wickets when they had just 80 on the board. Ross Taylor, the experienced campaigner and Tom Latham, their go-to man got together to keep the hosts at bay. They kept rotating strike, played the spinners to great effect and then pounced on the freebies that were on offer.

    • End of over 49 ( 5 Runs )NZ 284/4 This is the highest run-chase at this venue. The previous best was for India against Sri Lanka in the 2011 World Cup final. This is also New Zealand's highest successful run-chase against India. They had chased down 279 at Hamilton in 2014. 48.6Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Henry Nicholls. FOUR, FOUR! New Zealand win by 6 wickets! What a chase it has been from the Black Caps! They are delighted as they have done something which will shock the world at the moment. Well done! Length ball on middle, Nicholls hoicks it over mid-wicket for a boundary.

    • Henry Nicholls walks in next, replacing Taylor. He has to come out when his side need just a run to win.

    • 48.5Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Ross Taylor. out, OUT! Straight to the fielder! Would you believe it? Ross Taylor survived an LBW scare but now departs when his side is almost over the finish line. Fuller in length on off, Taylor smacks it hard but finds Chahal at extra cover who takes a good low catch. He walks back to a big round of applause. New Zealand just need 1 to win.

    • 48.4Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Ross Taylor. no run, Yorker on the stumps, Taylor jams it out by coming down the track.

    • 1 to win, Ross Taylor is on 95. Can he get a ton with a biggie and take his side over the line?

    • 48.3Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Tom Latham. 1 run, Length delivery outside off, Latham slaps it over cover for a single. Scores are level now!

    • 48.2Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Tom Latham. no run, Stays back and pushes it towards cover.

    • 48.1Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Tom Latham. no run, Short on off, punched towards point.

    • End of over 48 ( 4 Runs )NZ 279/3 47.6Jasprit Bumrah to Tom Latham. 1 run, Fuller in length on off, drilled through covers for a single.

    • 47.5Jasprit Bumrah to Ross Taylor. leg byes, 1 run, NOT OUT! The decision stands! Ross Taylor survives a scare and still has an opportunity to get a ton! Good length delivery, angling in, Taylor tries to hoick it across the line but misses and is hit on the pads. They appeal but the umpire shakes his head. Bumrah is really confident and Kohli takes the DRS! Replays roll in, front foot is just fine. Hawk Eye shows it's in line but would have clipped the stumps. That's it, the Kiwi dressing room is all smiles.

    • Howzzat???? Too late in the game but India have taken a review for an LBW appeal against Taylor. Bumrah looks very confident. Will Rosco survive to get a chance to earn his century?

    • 47.4Jasprit Bumrah to Ross Taylor. no run, Fuller on off, Taylor drives it straight to the cover fielder.

    • 47.3Jasprit Bumrah to Tom Latham. 1 run, Short of a length delivery on middle, pulled through backward square leg for a single.

    • 47.2Jasprit Bumrah to Tom Latham. no run, Pitches it on off, bunted back down the track.

India and New Zealand play in the first ODI of the three-match series. The first ODI will be played at Mumbai. This will also be the first time these sides clash at Wankhede Stadium. India are coming in from resounding series win over Australia, while this is New Zealand’s first limited-overs assignment after the ICC Champions Trophy in England.

New Zealand have played two ODIs at Wankhede Stadium, winning against Canada and losing to Sri Lanka. New Zealand will bank on the spin duo of Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner to trouble the Indians. India meanwhile, will yet again want Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal to trap their opponents yet again.

This will also be Virat Kohli’s 200th ODI, 13th player to do so for India. India so far have 49 ODI wins over New Zealand. Sepaking for captain’s Kane Williamson is 103 runs to become New Zealand seventh highest run-getter.
