Tamim: 'It's very pleasing. Whatever I planned, it came off for me. He (Imrul Kayes) batted very well and that helped us a lot. When I was in attacking mood, he was controlling the innings and it was a great combination. Taijul bowled brilliantly on this wicket, spinners don't have anything to offer on this surface. We enjoyed playing. We just played our roles well and it worked for us. When Mushy (Rahim) got out we got a bit nervous but Shakib batted well. We've done well in limited overs cricket and now we are proving in Test cricket.'

Rahim: 'The finger is getting better and hopefully I can play the second Test. It's a great achievement to score 500 in the second innings. Credit to Tamim and Imrul, they were brilliant at the top. It's difficult to take 20 wickets on this surface. This is the best batting performance I ever saw from Tamim. Imrul also batted really well. All credit goes to the boys and I am really privileged to be the captain of this team. People come to see results, hopefully we will have a good wicket for the next match.'
Misbah: 'It's a slow track, batsmen really enjoyed. Credit to whosoever scored, especially Hafeez and Tamim. You need to improve your performance with the ball and our catching. We need to bowl well. With a lead close to 300, we could have put them under pressure but we couldn't. They saved the game in those two sessions with that brilliant partnership. They counter-attacked our bowlers. Riaz and Junaid bowled well with the second new ball.'
Pakistan replied with a mammoth total. Hafeez was the star performer as he completed a superb double century. Asad Shafiq, Sarfraz Ahmed, Azhar Ali and Misbah-ul-Haq all compiled fifties. Taijul Islam was the chief wicket-taker for the home team and ended up with six wickets to his name. The second Test will be played in Mirpur. Hopefully, it will offer more help for the bowlers.
Both Tamim and Kayes showed twinkle-toed footwork to expertly tackle the spin trio of Zulfiqar Babar, Yasir Shah and Mohammad Hafeez. For the visitors, none of their bowlers were able to make an impact on a flat deck. Hafeez and Junaid Khan took a few wickets on Day 5, but by then, the match was meandering towards a draw. Earlier, Mominul Haque essayed a pugnacious knock as the hosts posted a score in excess of 300 in the first innings. Yasir and Wahab Riaz took three wickets apiece. However, Pakistan didn't help their cause by dropping a slew of catches.
Match summary: Tamim Iqbal composed the highest individual score by a Bangladeshi in Tests to help the hosts ground out a creditable draw. This was the first time they drew a Test match against Pakistan. It was high-octane stuff from Tamim as he smashed the opposition to shreds and scored a double ton. Tamim survived a couple of lbw shots, but other than that, he played with spirit and spunk. In fact, one has to remember that Imrul Kayes gave Tamim valuable support. They even strung together a monumental stand of 312. It turned out to be the first 300-run partnership for Bangladesh in the history of Test cricket.
The highlight of the day has to be Tamim getting to a double hundred and the minor altercation between Shakib and Riaz. Draw was the favourable result going into the final day and even though there were phases when things happened, it was never enough. Such was the openers' performance that the Bangladeshis as a team gave a guard of honor to the duo at the end of the day's play yesterday. For three days and a bit Pakistan were dominant. And then on the fourth day it was the Tamim and Imrul show. Trailing by 296 going into the third innings, the openers staged a remarkable comeback putting on an unbeaten 273-run stand which has left Pakistan stunned. Pakistan rolled over the Bangladeshis in the first innings and would've been hoping to do the same in the second but they didn't imagine such a performance from the top two of the Bangladeshi batting line-up. Pakistan tried everything but nothing worked for them. Tamim survived a very close LBW shout but the bowlers could not dominate proceedings as the Bangladeshi batsmen never allowed them to settle. With a big first innings lead, Pakistan would have entertained thoughts of a win, but with this sort of a reply from Bangladesh, the match is most certainly heading towards a draw. It was a day totally dominated by Bangladesh. First, they picked up five wickets to bowl out Pakistan - Taijul Islam finished with a 6-wicket haul - and then, despite trailing by 296 runs, openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes batted brilliantly to stun the visitors. Tamim was very aggressive and he completed a hundred off 123 balls. Kayes took his time but he too upped the ante as the innings progressed and registered a hundred. Tamim crossed 8000 runs in international cricket, while Kayes recorded 1000 runs in Test cricket. The duo also registered Bangladesh's highest ever partnership for any wicket in Tests.
