The first semi-final of ICC World T20 2016, which will also be Match 33 of the tournament, will be played on March 30, 2016, at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. New Zealand will take on England at the Feroze Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi, and after a long drama surrounding the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA), the ground was cleared to host the game. This is the same venue which organised the last match of the league round, a Group 1 match between South Africa and Sri Lanka, which was a dead rubber.

There are very few doubts that New Zealand, led by Kane Williamson, will be the red-hot favourites to win the clash. The Kiwis are the only team which is yet to be defeated in the tournament, as they won all their league matches in Group 2.

On their road to the semi-final of this T20 World Cup 2016, New Zealand slammed India in their first match by 47 runs, trumped Australia and Pakistan, and registered a massive win over Bangladesh to end at the top spot in the T20 World Cup 2016 Points Table for Group 2. New Zealand have been impressive in all departments, and their spin bowling has been a revelation so far in this tournament.

On the other hand, England can prove they are no less. England slammed South Africa in a high-scoring game in Mumbai, successfully chasing 230 to win. England did suffer some nervous moments against Afghanistan, but emerged winners, and they did well to remain safe from an Angelo Mathews’ onslaught in their match against Sri Lanka.

England have lost only one game so far in the tournament, when Chris Gayle slammed a 47-ball century to help West Indies trump the English side in their Group 1 match at Mumbai. England finished second behind the West Indies in the Points Table for Group 1 in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2016.

The tournament has seen a qualifying round played among eight teams, with the top two teams going on to the main round. The qualifying round was played from March 8 to March 13. Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Ireland, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Scotland, Oman, and Zimbabwe played the qualifying round, from which only two progressed.

These two teams joined Group 1 and Group 2 of the main round. Group 1 included England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and one of the qualifying teams, while India, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, and the other qualifying team comprised of Group 2.

The main round started on March 15 and ended on March 28. It is now time for the first semi-final at Delhi. The winner of this match will play the winner of the second semi-final — that is to be played on March 31 at Mumbai — in the final at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on April 3. India and West Indies are the two teams set to clash in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2016.

England and New Zealand are evenly-matched sides so the semi-final is not going to be easy to predict. The Black Caps have a much stronger bowling attack but England's batting line-up is in better form at the moment.

New Zealand have momentum on their side, having won each of their matches so far in the tournament. Having started off with a win against India, they have shown no signs of stopping down ever since then.

England's batting has looked quite potent. Players like Joe Root, Jos Buttler, Eoin Morgan, and Jason Roy have led the batting with aplomb.

New Zealand's spinners have been by far the most impressive tweakers of the tournament so far. Ish Sodhi, Mitchell Santner, and Nathan McCullum have tied down the opposition repeatedly, and in doing so have outshone even the likes of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

The match is nearly upon us. We still don't know who will play, who will win, who will qualify for the final. Could be anybody's game. Final prediction: New Zealand start with the slight advantage.

New Zealand certainly seem to be the favourites starting off, but there is no question that England will be able to bounce back and go all the way.

    Squads:

    England:
Eoin Morgan (c), Sam Billings, Liam Dawson, Alex Hales, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Reece Topley, David Willey, Moeen Ali, Jos Buttler (wk), Chris Jordan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, James Vince, Liam Plunkett.

New Zealand: Kane Williamson (c), Luke Ronchi (wk), Martin Guptill, Trent Boult, Nathan McCullum, Colin Munro, Ish Sodhi, Ross Taylor, Corey Anderson, Grant Elliott, Mitchell McClenaghan, Adam Milne, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee.
