New Zealand innings

Batting R B 4s 6s SR
Tom Lathamb Kemar Roach 86 184 12 1 46.74
55.2
Kemar Roach to Tom Latham, OUT! TIMBER! Stop the press, the Windies have finally gotten a wicket! Latham's luck runs out. The change to get Roach on has worked! This is a lovely delivery. It lands on off and is on a length. Latham looks to defend but the ball just sneaks in a touch, takes the inside edge and then hits the stumps. Latham falls 14 short of a ton. Is this the opening the Windies needed? Will this open the floodgates?
Will Younglbw b Shannon Gabriel 5 11 1 0 45.45
3.6
Shannon Gabriel to Will Young, OUT! LBW! Young's debut does not last long. Shane Dowrich can breathe a sigh of relief. Excellent delivery and Gabriel's early effort has an early reward to show for it. A pacy ball which is full and comes back in sharply. Young looks to defend but his feet go nowhere. He misses it and gets hit on the pad. An appeal follows and the umpire raises his finger. No waiting from Young as he knows he is dead in front. Young's debut does not last long and West Indies have an early breakthrough.
Kane Williamson (C)c Roston Chase b Alzarri Joseph 251 412 34 2 60.92
141.5
Alzarri Joseph to Kane Williamson, OUT! CAUGHT! Kane departs but what an innings. Absolute gem of an innings from the Kiwi captain. He walks off to a standing ovation from the crowd and his teamamates in the dressing room. Williamson had to go after the bowling as New Zealand are eyeing quick runs before declaration. Jospeh runs in and bangs it short. Kane goes for the pull but fails to get the timing. It went straight down the throat of Chase at deep mid-wicket. He is not dropping it. End of a classy innings from Kane Williamson.
Ross Taylorc Shamarh Brooks b Shannon Gabriel 38 68 6 0 55.88
79.3
Shannon Gabriel to Ross Taylor, OUT! Caught! No question about it being a bump ball and West Indies have their first wicket of the day. The first ball Gabriel has got right today and that has fetched him another wicket. Very good ball from Gabriel. He goes full around off. Taylor gets on his front foot to defend but the ball shapes away a tad and with good pace. It kisses the outside edge of Taylor's bat and goes straight into the mitts of the keeper. Shamarh Brooks, who is standing behind the stumps, takes a simple catch. The umpires check to see if it was a bump ball. Replays show it is clean as a whistle.
Henry Nichollsc Jason Holder b Kemar Roach 7 33 1 0 21.21
89.3
Kemar Roach to Henry Nicholls, OUT! Caught! Almost fumbled but takes it in the end. Nicholls stay in the middle comes to an end. Roach gets his second of the game. Fullish ball outside off. Asking Henry to drive. He goes for it. The ball though shapes away and takes the outside edge. It goes to Holder at second slip. The West Indies skipper initially takes it too casually and the ball pops out of his hand. He then outstretches his big left arm and holds onto it one handed while going down to the ground.
Tom Blundell (W)lbw b Shannon Gabriel 14 63 2 0 22.22
111.4
Shannon Gabriel to Tom Blundell, OUT! LBW! The review does not save Blundell and he has to continue his walk back to the pavilion. Good length ball that pitches on off and jags back in. Blundell looks to defend but misses and gets hit on the pads. The West Indies players appeal and the umpire raises his finger. Blundell has a chat with his skipper and decides to take the review. Replay rolls in and Ultra Edge first confirms no involvement of bat. Time for the Ball Tracker and it shows three reds. Blundell departs and takes a review with him too. First and early success for West Indies in the second session.
Daryl Mitchellc Jason Holder b Kemar Roach 9 37 1 0 24.32
125.6
Kemar Roach to Daryl Mitchell, OUT! CAUGHT! Roach gets his 3rd and he deserves this. He has been the best bowler in this innings so far. Has gone past the edge a lot of time but finally gets that. Good length ball on off, it is in the corridor of uncertainity. Mitchell looks to defend but gets a thick outside edge which goes straight into the palms of Jason Holder at second slip.

Kraigg Brathwaitec Tom Blundell b Trent Boult 21 92 1 0 22.83
29.1
Trent Boult to Kraigg Brathwaite, OUT! TAKEN! Boult joins the act now. And what a stunning take behind the wickets from Tom Blundell. Third wicket in the 4th over this morning. A length ball just outside off, Brathwaite pokes at it with hard hands. The ball is angled away from the right-hander. It moves good enough to take the outside edge. The ball goes flying towards the first slip but Blundell dives to his right and snaffles the ball superbly. The morning just keeps getting better for the Kiwis.
John Campbellc Kane Williamson b Tim Southee 26 73 2 1 35.62
26.5
Tim Southee to John Campbell, OUT! TAKEN! Southee strikes in the first over on Day 3. A very poor stroke from Campbell. He has thrown away a very good start. Full and wide outside off, Campbell goes chasing after it. He wants to hammer it over extra cover but mistimes it. Williamson at mid off backs away a touch and catches it over his head. He can do no wrong. Top work from Southee already. He made Campbell play from ball 1 and then lured him with this slightly fuller ball.
Shamarh Brooksc Ross Taylor b Tim Southee 1 7 0 0 14.29
28.2
Tim Southee to Shamarh Brooks, OUT! TAKEN! Southee gets the second wicket now. Terrific bowling from him. Brooks is the man to go. Fuller and just outside off, Brooks had to play at it. He gets on the front foot and looks to defend but gets a thick outside edge as the ball moves a touch. The ball goes to good height for Taylor at first slip. He makes no mistake. New Zealand are off to a perfect start here.
Darren Bravob Kyle Jamieson 9 35 0 0 25.71
38.6
Kyle Jamieson to Darren Bravo, OUT! TIMBER! Jamieson knocks over Bravo with a ripper! What a delivery from him. Top work and Jamieson strikes in his first over. The decent-looking stand has been broken. After bowling a couple of shortish length and hitting the gloves with a steep bounce, Jamieson bowls it fullish and around off, it comes back in as Bravo looks to flick but is beaten all ends up with this inswinger. He gets to hear his sticks rattled behind.
Roston Chaselbw b Neil Wagner 11 29 2 0 37.93
39.1
Neil Wagner to Roston Chase, OUT! LBW! Yes, Chase has to go! Three reds it is. And with that half the Windies side is back in the hut now. Length ball around off and middle, Chase looks to defend off his back foot but misses to get hit on the pad. A loud, loud appeal but nothing from the umpire. Williamson has a word with the bowler and the keeper and he signals the 'T'. Let's see what the replays have got to show. Is there any bat? Ultra Edge confirms it is pad first. What does the Ball Tracker show? Pitching in line and hitting the stumps. Chase has to go. Excellent review from Williamson and New Zealand.
Jermaine Blackwoodc Tom Latham b Tim Southee 23 48 3 0 47.92
54.3
Tim Southee to Jermaine Blackwood, OUT! CAUGHT! Southee strikes! He doesn't take long. Blackwood is known for playing his shots and he has been out in the middle for a decent time now. He doesn't want to miss out on the scoring opportunities. Southee lures him with a fuller one which is wide outside off. Blackwood throws the willow as he tries to drive but ends up getting a thick outside edge. Latham at second slip makes no mistake.
Jason Holder (C)not out 25 73 3 0 34.25
Alzarri Josephc Daryl Mitchell b Tim Southee 0 3 0 0 0
54.6
Tim Southee to Alzarri Joseph, OUT! CAUGHT! Southee gets his 4th and Joseph departs without troubling the scorers. Southee goes wide of the crease and bowls it full and just outside off, Joseph looks to drive but gets a thick outside edge The ball goes low to Mitchell who takes a very sharp catch at third slip. A double wicket maiden from Southee.
Kemar Roachb Kyle Jamieson 2 18 0 0 11.11
62.1
Kyle Jamieson to Kemar Roach, OUT! TIMBER! Full, and fast and he goes through the defense of Roach. A beauty from Jamieson. A length ball around off, angled on. Roach looks to defend but the ball goes through and disturbs the woodwork behind. He was stuck in his crease there.
Shannon Gabriellbw b Neil Wagner 1 9 0 0 11.11
63.6
Neil Wagner to Shannon Gabriel, OUT! LBW! Umpire's call on hitting the wicket. Wagner gets his second wicket. After bowling a bumper he goes for the fuller one to Gabriel. He looks to flick but misses to get hit on the pad. An appeal and the finger is raised. Gabriel refers it upstairs but it won't help as there is no bat which is confirmed by the Ultra Edge. And the Ball Tracker shows that it will be umpire's call on hitting the wicket.

Kraigg Brathwaitec Tom Blundell b Tim Southee 10 23 1 0 43.48
8.1
Tim Southee to Kraigg Brathwaite, OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Another one bites the dust and it is Southee who gets a wicket now. Poor, poor stuff from Brathwaite. Short and wide outside off, Brathwaite looks to upper cut but gets a faint edge to the keeper. Blundell makes no mistake. New Zealand are on fire here.
John Campbellc Tom Latham b Trent Boult 2 3 0 0 66.67
1.3
Trent Boult to John Campbell, OUT! CAUGHT! Yes! There is no conclusive evidence for the third umpire to overturn the onfield call. Looked touch and go. An absolute ripper of a delivery from Boult. He pitches it just outside off, Campbell is squared up as he looks to defend with hard hands. The induced outside edge goes to the second slip fielder. Latham catches it really low and New Zealand celebrate. Campbell is not going anywhere. The two umpires get together and refer it upstairs. The soft signal is out. That is going to play a big role. Let's see what the replays show. It looks really inconclusive there. With one angle it looks like the fingers are under the ball while another one suggests that it might have kissed the turf. Tough decision to make and the third umpire goes with the onfield call. Campbell has to go. New Zealand have struck early in this innings.
Darren Bravoc Tim Southee b Neil Wagner 12 19 3 0 63.16
7.2
Neil Wagner to Darren Bravo, OUT! TAKEN! Wagner strikes on the second ball of his spell and it is the massive wicket of Bravo. A couple of good shots and he is dismissed. Wagner is fired up. Good length and outside off, Bravo pokes at it without moving his feet. The outside edge goes to the left of Southee at second slip. He tumbles to that side and takes a fine catch.
Shamarh Brooksc sub Devon Conway b Neil Wagner 2 4 0 0 50
7.6
Neil Wagner to Shamarh Brooks, OUT! CAUGHT! Another one goes. Wagner gets second wicket in the over. He is delighted. Brooks fails again. A length ball on the pads, Brooks goes for the flick again. This time he hits it uppishly and there is a fielder at square leg. Conway, the substitute, there makes no mistake.
Roston Chaselbw b Kyle Jamieson 6 19 1 0 31.58
14.6
Kyle Jamieson to Roston Chase, OUT! LBW! Yes, there is no bat and it is hitting the wicket too. Chase has been removed with an absolute ripper of a delivery from Jamieson. It is the inswinging yorker from him and Chase is all over the place as he tries to keep it out. He misses to get hit on the pad. A loud appeal follows and the umpire agrees. Chase opts to challenge the onfield call. But it won't really help him because Ultra Edge shows no bat and the Ball Tracker shows it to be crashing on the middle pole. Chase has to go.
Jermaine Blackwoodc Tim Southee b Neil Wagner 104 141 11 2 73.76
58.1
Neil Wagner to Jermaine Blackwood, OUT! Gone! Blackwood departs after a superb ton. New Zealand’s frustration finally comes to an end. Wagner is the man who has done the job. Can they now take the remaining wickets quickly? Short delivery on leg, Blackwood looks to pull but gets it off the glove. It goes towards square leg where Southee takes a comfortable catch.
Jason Holder (C)lbw b Daryl Mitchell 8 15 1 0 53.33
21.3
Daryl Mitchell to Jason Holder, OUT! LBW! Yes, Mitchell has got his man. He has his maiden Test wicket. Poor, poor batting from him. He got a life just 1 ball ago. He played a reckless shot then and he tried something similar but this time he has to go. Fuller and around off and middle, Holder looks to slog it on the leg side via a flick but he misses it completely. He is struck on the pads. A massive appeal and the finger goes up. Holder asks for the review straightaway but that looked out to the naked eye. Let's see what the replays have got to show. No bat involved, Ultra Edge confirms. The Ball Tracker shows it to be clipping the leg pole. Holder has to go and Mitchell and the Kiwis celebrate.
Alzarri Josephc sub Mitchell Santner b Kyle Jamieson 86 125 9 3 68.8
57.2
Kyle Jamieson to Alzarri Joseph, OUT! CAUGHT! The partnership is finally broken. Joseph is a goner. Would have loved to see him get a ton here though, he has batted brilliantly. End of a very fluent knock by the pacer. Full delivery on off, Joseph lofts it over point but does not get the timing on it. It goes towards the fielder where substitute Mitchell Santner takes a good catch.
Kemar Roachnot out 0 2 0 0 0
