Afghanistan vs Zimbabwe, 2015-16

Zimbabwe travel to UAE for a five-match One-Day International (ODI) series and a two-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Afghanistan — a side clearly on the rise in world cricket over the past year, and more. The series starts December 25, thus marking a rare occasion when a cricket series or tournament begins on Christmas. Both teams will aim for stellar performances, as this will be their only proper preparation for the upcoming ICC World T20, set to be held in India from March 2016. Afghanistan will aim for their second consecutive series win after they beat Zimbabwe a couple of months back in their own backyard, while Zimbabwe will look forward to avenge their home series defeat a couple of months ago.

The five ODIs will be played at the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium, where the tracks are usually flat and suit the batsman. As both teams, especially Zimbabwe, have strong batting line-ups, the matches will probably be high-scoring.

The T20Is will also be played in Sharjah, thus giving both the sides the perfect warm-up before the mega event in March. Zimbabwe, coming off a decent performance in T20Is of late, will look to continue their good form in the shortest format of the game; the Afghans, on the other hand, must be wary of the strong Zimbabweans T20 side. On their day, Zimbabwe have the capability to upset even bigger sides.

Afghanistan boast a strong line-up, with the likes of Mohammad Shahzad, Asghar Stanikzai, Samiullah Shenwari, Mohammad Nabi, Dawlat Zadran, and Nawroz Mangal in their side, all of whom can turn the things around for their own. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, have the likes of Elton Chigumbura, Hamilton Masakadza, Sikandar Raza, Tinashe Panyangara, Luke Jongwe, and others who can make the upcoming contest a fantastic one.
