Covid blows were delivered to Australia prior to the second Test match. After the first Test concluded in Adelaide, Travis Head was the first to be diagnosed with the infection. Australian media stated that Green and Australia's head coach Andrew McDonald tested positive for the virus one day before the second Test.
Australia coach and selector Andrew McDonald first mentioned the prospect of Green as a possible replacement for Warner back in November, though he suggested that the order could be reshuffled with Marnus Labuschagne moving up to open and Green slotting into the middle order.
Coach McDonald said that everything will be considered as far as Warner's replacement is concerned and confirmed that Green, who last played a Test in July against England, could also be recalled as part of the batting order reshuffle.
"We know they can play, they have got good numbers in Shield cricket and I think if we were to go down that path and choose one of them, I think they would do a really good job," McDonald said of the trio who have all played 10 Tests each.
