Captain: Steven Smith
Coach: Stephen Fleming
Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) is one of the two newest teams in Indian Premier League (IPL), formed in the wake of the suspension to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) along with Gujarat Lions (GL). RPS has quite a few similarities to what used to be CSK, chief among which is the fact that RPS is captained by MS Dhoni. There are a number of common players as well, such as Ravichandran Ashwin, Faf du Plessis, Albie Morkel, and Irfan Pathan among others. Stephen Fleming was appointed as the head coach of RPS, which gave yet another commonality with CSK.
RPS will be active for only two years, for IPL 2016 and 2017. After that RPS and GL will be replaced again by CSK and RR. RPS are owned by the Sanjiv Goenka-owned New Rising. This is the second team from Pune to play IPL, after the now-defunct Sahara Pune Warriors India (PWI).
