The England captain however, credited Gary Ballance and Chris Jordan for putting decent shifts with the bat and ball despite the duo playing in only their second One day International (ODI).

England skipper Alastair Cook has urged his side to deliver the goods, after they lost to Australia in the first ODI at Melbourne, thus extending their nightmarish run in the on-going tour.

“It’s tough when you keep losing games. It’s hard to keep confidence up. It does take a hit. Somehow we need to find a way to stop the rot,” said Cook to Express.co.uk after the six-wicket loss at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
