Michael Vaughan said that Graeme Swann will regret what he said a day after he announced retirement from international and First-Class cricket.

The off-spinner stunned the sport by announcing his immediate retirement on Sunday from all forms of cricket following England’s defeat to Australia in the Ashes.

But the 34-year-old caused a stir with comments that were interpreted as being directed towards members of the England team, who are trying to avoid a 5-0 series sweep by Australia in the final two Ashes Tests.

“Some people playing the game at the minute have no idea how far up their own backsides they are,” Swann said in comments carried by the Daily Telegraph ahead of the fourth Test, which starts in Melbourne on Thursday.

“Retirement is all about talking how great your career has been. I don’t see why anyone wants to say that. Even if you feel like say that in a few months time, say that in a book but saying that few England players have taken it for granted, I guess he has probably got that wrong.”

Vaughan also said that England get a lot out of the last two Ashes Test matches. He said that the stadium is expected to be jam-packed on Boxing Day and he expects a 5-0 whitewash of England, keeping in mind how the two teams have played till now.

Vaughan said that England need a motivation to start planning for ICC World Cup 2015 and also they got only 14 games to find Swann’s replacement.

The Ashes-winning former captain of England said that Swann is a hard player to find. He praised about Swann’s energy, humour and said Monty Panesar can be given the opportunity.
