James Pattinson bagged four wickets, while Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus took two each as India were tottering at 178 for eight at tea on the opening day of the second Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

MS Dhoni was at the crease batting on 44.

Earlier, India produced a shoddy batting display against a quality Australian pace attack led by rookie James Pattinson (3/25) as they were tottering at 72 for four at lunch.

Electing to bat, all the Indian top-order batsmen struggled except for Sachin Tendulkar (batting 21) on a greenish pitch at the Sydney Cricket Ground which is hosting its 100th Test.

Pattinson was again the enforcer as he hustled Gautam Gambhir (0), Virender Sehwag (30) and VVS Laxman (2) into submission while his Victorian fellow fast bowler Peter Siddle accounted for Rahul Dravid (5) as the visitors took lunch at 72 for four in 26 overs.
