Bangladesh played some good cricket in the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2016 to progress to the Super 10 stage. They beat teams like Netherlands and Oman in the earlier stages of the tournament that took place in India. Although, they couldn’t win a single match in the Super 10 stage. They lost to Pakistan by 55 runs. Then they lost to Australia by 3 wickets. They came close to beating the hosts, India but eventually lost to them by 1-run in a thriller of a game. In their final game they were completely out-beaten by a top-class New Zealand side.
Mortaza had blamed the ICC’s suspension of Taskin Ahmed and Arafat Sunny his side’s exit from the T20 World Cup. Both the bowlers were banned for illegal bowling actions. “In the last eight matches, Taskin’s economy rate was the best in the world. So it was always difficult to lose him,” Mortaza had said at after returning home.
