Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has been the most consistent side in the Indian Premier League (IPL). No doubt, they have quality in batting and bowling but one aspect where they outplay all others in fielding. CSK are the best fielding side and Faf du Plessis is undoubtedly one of the finest fielders is contemporary cricket.
Over the last few years, du Plessis has produced some of the most incredible displays on the field and the South African was at it again during CSK’s encounter against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Chinnaswamy Stadium n the recently concluded IPL.
RCB had won the toss and had put the opposition to bat first. While batting first, CSK imposed a solid total of 181 for 8 in 20 overs with du Plessis’ late flourish of 33 from 18 deliveries helping the side.
While chasing, Manvinder Bisla and Rilee Roussow gave RCB the start they needed. Their acceleration was halted in the fourth over when Ashish Nehra’s delivery was top edged by Bisla and looked set to reach the fence. Du Plessis, fielding at mid-off, sprinted backwards. Since the ball was beyond his reach and dying on the ground, he decided to dive backwards and give it a try extending his right hand. He managed to grab the ball despite falling hard on his right shoulder.
It was a spectacular catch no doubt and the South African could have injured himself seriously. However, he showed no pains and once he clutched the ball, he swiftly got up and celebrated the feat. CSK won the match by 27 runs and du Plessis was lauded for his brilliance.
