India have begun their preparations for the upcoming three-match Test series against Sri Lanka, the first game of which is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, August 12 at Galle. The visitors, who recently drew with the Sri Lanka Board President’s XI in a warm-up fixture, were seen practising in the nets on Tuesday, which the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to share on their official Twitter account. Indian skipper and star batsman Virat Kohli will be making his debut against Sri Lanka in the process, and the series will be an opportunity for him to register his first Test win. India and Sri Lanka prepare to face each other for the 36th time in Tests in the scenic seaside venue of Galle. The BCCI announced their squad in July, with Amit Mishra earning  a surprise call into the Test side after a gap of four years aside, as well as spin stalwart Harbhajan Singh. With the retirement of MS Dhoni in the format, Wriddhiman Saha will look to seal his place in the Test side as the first-choice wicketkeeper. The team however, were dealt with a blow when Murali Vijay was ruled out of the first Test due to a hamstring niggle. Vijay’s exit has given KL Rahul the opportunity to open the innings alongside Shikhar Dhawan and cement his spot in the side. READ: Virat Kohli vs Sri Lanka
