Legalising betting may not control spot-fixing, says Special Commission

Against the backdrop of recent incidents of match and spot-fixing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), many stakeholders are advocating creation of a new stricter legal framework and legalisation of sports betting to keep a check on match and spot fixing. Some sections are yet to believe that it will curb the menace of match-fixing.

It is almost a month since the IPL spot-fixing scandal broke out with the arrest of three Rajasthan Royals cricketers and from that day itself voices have been raised from different sections of the society – should betting be legalised or not?
