Alastair Cook urged the England team to repeat their performance in the Headingley One-Day International (ODI) in future. England clinched a 41-run victory in the fifth and final ODI, after being handed three consecutive defeats in the second, third and fourth ODIs. Joe Root was the player of the match, as he scored a match-winning 113.

Cook came under a lot of criticism in the Test series as well as the ODI series. Earlier, he was criticised for his bad run of form with the bat, and negative captaincy. However, Cook proved his critics wrong by winning the third, fourth and fifth Tests. In ODIs, he was again criticized and former players asked him to step down as captain.
