England are well placed in the first Ashes Test at Old Trafford courtesy of an unbeaten 108-run stand between Ian Bell and Stuart Broad. England are leading by 261 runs with four wickets still in hand.

Bell is batting on 95. He helped England recover from the quick loss of skipper Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen, but the talking point of the day was Stuart Broad, who refused to walk when the umpire Aleem Dar failed to spot his thick outside edge.

Controversies galore in the first Test.

Day four is likely to be another thrilling day as England will turn their attention to finishing the task on a wicket that is dry and will surely aid English bowlers.
