Here's a video of the highlights from the morning session on Day 1 of the first Ashes Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Wednesday.

England captain Alastair Cook won the toss and elected to bat. Australia handed a debut to 19-year-old left-arm spinner Ashton Agar in place of Nathan Lyon. David Warner also sat out. It was later announced that he will head to Africa to join the Australia A team for some match practice.

England, on the other hand, benched Tim Bresnan in favour of Steven Finn, which raised a few eyebrows.

Australia struck early and dismissed Cook for 13. Then Joe Root and Jonathan Trott added a 51-run partnership for the second wicket.

Root departed for a well made 30. When lunch was taken on Day 1, England were at 98 for two. Trott (37) and Kevin Pietersen (10) were at the crease.

James Pattinson and Peter Siddle took one wicket each.
