Australian opener Chris Rogers has described captain Michael Clarke’s innings (125 not out) as massive for the team in context of the game. Australia are at 303 for three at stumps on Day One of the third Ashes Test at Old Trafford.

Rogers was dismissed for a brisk 84 off 114 balls. He said that he wanted to show people that he can play positive and he is not someone who just stays at the crease. He also said that he had to perform, given that he has not got enough runs in the series so far.

Rogers said that the younger team members look up to Clarke and that they needed him to score a big hundred and that he did, which has put them in a good position in the match. Australia do trail England 2-0 in the five-match series.
