Australia beat England in the first One-Day International (ODI) by a comfortable margin; though the three-wicket win might suggest otherwise, the fact that the Australians were in complete control of the game was unquestionable given the start they enjoyed. Mitchell Starc, opening the bowling, got rid of both Ian Bell and James Taylor in the very first over of the game, as England lost two of their top three batsmen without a run on the board.

They were soon reduced to 34 for four after Joe Root and Moeen Ali’s dismissals. However, sandwiched between some excellent sustained pace bowling came one of the most atrocious deliveries one can imagine. The ball evidently slipped out of Pat Cummins’ hand, as the ensuing beamer reached Shane Watson at first slip.
