Australian opener Phil Hughes said the victory against India in the first One-Day International (ODI) in Pune on Sunday was a great one. Australia beat India by 72 runs to go 1-0 up in the five-match series.

Hughes and opening partner Aaron Finch put together a 110-run opening stand to set the platform for Australia. Hughes was dismissed for 47. Australia scored 304 for eight.

The left-hander also praised the bowling attack for bowling India out for 232. Hughes said irrespective of batting first or bowling first, it was about starting well and Australia did just that.

He also said it was great to see Mitchell Johnson bowling very fast. Hughes also had to keep wickets after Brad Haddin was poked in the eye by James Faulkner.

Hughes praised George Bailey’s captaincy. He also said it was a great team win and it was great to start with a big win but he and his teammates just wanted to take it one game at a time.
