It was the semi-final of 1993 Hero cup between India and South Africa. India batted first, and despite Mohammad Azharuddin’s brilliant 90, could only manage to score 195. It looked like an easy chase for South Africa. But they had a poor start, as India managed to take a couple of early wickets, but at 106 for three South Africans were ahead in the by a long way. However, once Jonty Rhodes (16) and Andrew Hudson (62) were dismissed, the South Africans collapsed.

The last over:

Ball 1: With just 6 runs needed off the last over, Azhar once again turned to Tendulkar. There was a run out in the first over. Brian McMillan (48*) cut one to point and ran a comfortable single, but Fanie de Villiers wanted a second. McMillan said no, and de Villiers was run-out.

Ball 2: Allan Donald, the new batsman played and missed. Now its 5 off 4.

Ball 3: Another dot ball. Donald hit straight to Tendulkar. 5 off 3.

Ball 4: Donald played and missed. 5 off 3.

Ball 5: Just a single. 4 form 1 with McMillan at the  striking end.

Ball 6: Just a single, India won by 3 runs.

Thanks to Tendulkar’s magical final over India managed to beat the South African and reached the final. Later, Indian went on to win the Hero Cup, beating the West Indies in the final.
