Marcus Stoinis became the 209th player to play One-Day International (ODI) for Australia when he was handed his ODI cap for the fourth one-dayer against England. Australia eventually won the series 3-2. Aaron Finch gave him his cap just before the start of play today. Stoinis has shown potential . Stoinis had made his international debut in the one-off T20 International (T20I) against England at Cardiff. Stoinis has a total of 1372 runs in 22 First-Class matches at an average of over 39. Joe Burns was handed his maiden cap in the one-off ODI against Ireland at Belfast early on, which the visitors won by 23 runs. Stoinis will have no struggle in adjusting with his current teammates as he was a member of Australiaâs Under-19 squad alongside current Australian players Smith, James Faulkner, James Pattinson and Josh Hazlewood. Mark Waugh had earlier said on Stoinis, âI think he definitely can. Heâs a bit of a left-field selection [in the ODI squad] for a lot of people, because if you donât watch a lot of Shield cricket you probably wouldnât have heard of him very muchâ. Waugh hints that Burns, who made his debut against India recently could be a potential replacement for Smith at No.3, with th latter dropping down to No.4 âHe is very versatile. Heâs played in the middle order for Australia and opened in Shield, so he could slot in at three or he could open maybe.â
