South Africa One-Day International (ODI) skipper AB de Villiers stated that team-mate Faf du Plessis did not get enough credit for his century during their crushing victory over India in the final game of the five-match 50-over series at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. South Africa thrashed India by 214 runs to clinch the series 3-2, with the trio of du Plessis (133 off 115), de Villiers (119 off 61) and wicketkeeper batsman Quinton de Kock (109 off 87) slamming centuries to guide the visitors to their joint second-highest-ever total of 438 for four. De Villiers was the most felicitated among the three, with the venue abuzz with chants of “AB!AB!” as he brought up his century in just 59 balls. “I think Faf didn’t get enough credit for his knock. He came in a very difficult situation, in the middle of the innings when the Indian spinners started dominating a little bit,” said de Villiers in the post-match press conference according to a video on ProteasCricket YouTube channel.

“He controlled the innings exceptionally well, and allowed myself and Quinton to sort of just free up. You could see that both of us scored faster than run-a-ball hundreds, and that was because of Faf’s stability at the other end.

“I think he was getting really tired throughout his innings, and to show that kind of determination to anchor the batting lineup towards the end was just incredible. He didn’t get away with a lot of credit, but the knock he played was the most important of the three,” added de Villiers.
