Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insan’s Wikipedia page describes him as a preacher, spiritual leader and actor. It may require some editing now as the religious preacher has made a shocking revelation. In a video released recently, where Gurmeet can be seen speaking to an audience, he made a stunning revelation of coaching star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli. Gurmeet claimed in the video that he has played 32 sports at national level and has coached quite a few players who have brought laurels to the nation. In the video, he starts with taking the credit of Vijender Singh’s medal at Beijing Olympics and then goes on to say that he has also coached Kohli.

He does not stop there, and goes on to name other Indian cricketers who have at some point of time in their lives visited him and sought his guidance. The other notable names Gurmeet takes include that of Zaheer Khan, Shikhar Dhawan, Ashish Nehra (whom he mistakenly calls as Jagdish Nehra), Pakistani speedster Waqar Younis and Yusuf Pathan, about whom he has an interesting story to share. He reveals how a thin and wiry Yusuf had come to him as a youngster and how he changed the cricketer’s life.

When someone from the audience, presumably a journalist, asks Gurmeet as to why these cricketers never acknowledge his role in their development, the preacher says he does not care whether they do so or not. But he has sufficient video evidences of the same. He discloses how a young Kohli would come to him to seek his help. At one instance, the spiritual leader shies away from taking the credit, saying it is the almighty who gets everything done through him.

Gurmeet is best known for his flamboyance, gaudy attires and exaggerated stunts that he does in his movies, where he is portrayed as a man with supernatural powers. He has been a part of controversies as well in the past. Through his socio-spiritual organisation Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS), he not only gets involved in various social programmes, such as cleanliness campaigns, blood donation drives, tree planting, disaster relief et al, but also lends support to the political parties in his home state Haryana and plays a key role in influencing the opinion of voters and formation of governments.

This is not the first instance of a spiritual leader taking credit for success of Indian cricketers and Team India. After India won the must-win game against Australia during the ICC World T20 2016 earlier this year, ‘Art-of-Living’ chief Sri Sri Ravishankar had tweeted to Indian skipper MS Dhoni how the script of the match unfolded just the way he had predicted. Dhoni did not comment on it and now, it will be interesting to see how Kohli and other cricketers react to this claim.
