This video captures the freak dismissal of Kumar Sangakkara in the Compaq Cup final between India and Sri Lanka at Colombo. Sangakkara’s bat is seen slipping out of his grip as he negotiates a delivery from RP Singh. Sangakkara was batting on 33 at the time and while he was at the crease a Sri Lankan win was not entirely out of the window. His gloves may have been sodden with sweat owing to the hot and muggy conditions in Colombo.

Sangakkara was batting fluently on 33 at the time and his wicket was the final nail in the coffin hammered by RP Singh. Sri Lanka were up against a mammoth target of 320 on a pitch that’s notoriously disadvantageous to chasing teams. India rode on a Sachin Tendulkar’s 138 and fifties from MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh to set Sri Lanka 320 to win the final which they eventually won by 46 runs.
