The Castle Lager Proteas beat New Zealand by 62 runs in the third Momentum ODI to win the series 2-1 and leap frog their opponents into third place on the ICC rankings. The Proteas won the toss and opted to bat first and posted very competitive 283/7 to which New Zealand were only able to reply with 221 all out in 49.2 overs. The match also marked a notable landmark for AB de Villiers who became the fastest player to score 8 000 ODI runs. He was also named Man of the Match for his innings of 64 off 48 balls with 6 fours and a six on a pitch on which most batsmen struggled to score runs quickly.
